Okay, so Senator Warren had her friend take and analyize her DNA. He came up with the conclusion that she MAY BE 1/1024 Cherokee based on a marker that some Cherokee sometimes have. And the margin of error is 1/256. She may be 0.00097561 Cherokee. Does that count? The margin of error says that all of us may be 0.00390625 Cherokee. Shall we claim it as well?
And what about our minority classifications? Are you Hispanic or Latino? Black? Etc. Most classifications, such as for company ownership for preference and set-asides, claiming benefits and freebies, etc., are simply Yes and No. There are no established percentages. In California there is controversy over House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthys in-laws claiming Native American identity because of a commercial DNA test. Ah, third-party test, not one by a friend. Anyway, please dispute the legitimacy of the claim. Yet, the law says you are or are not.
So, based on current laws and customs, local, state, and federal programs are simply Yes or No. Makes a bit of a mockery of these set-asides as are all mongrels to some extent--the American Melting Pot. My family traces to 1700s German, Irish, and Scottish settlers, later to Polish and Lithuanian. Bet if I got a DNA test, we'd find a lot more. My wife's family is from Spain and Spain via Venezuela. My boys qualify as Hispanic or Latino. Better benefits if we'd claim they were illegal but that's a different topic.
Okay, I've worked with White Cubans who qualified because they were from Cuba. Not much different than our son's claiming Hispanic or Latino because of my wife's Spanish roots.
My conclusion is that it is all a scam, long overdue to be ended. If we are color blind, then who cares? Race origin is haphazard measure, made meaningless with DNA tests, which are often flawed anyway by reading only a half dozen markers out of thousands (and repeated claims that they are inaccurate, false data is thrown in to screw with people, etc.). Should we end it or say that someone needs, like the Cherokee, a certain percentage? I say end it.
More important, in my opinion, is are you a citizen or not, are you economically disadvantaged (giving small business a helping hand when competing again big business.
Until there is some clarity, I suspect more and more people can claim whatever they want with whatever flimsy but equally acceptable evidence they want to you.
What do you think? Do away with it? Set thresholds? Set test requirements or sources for claim?
Sure, she “may be” 0.00097561 Cherokee based on DNA from Colombia, Peru and Mexico, lol. And zero DNA from actual Cherokee people.
Actual Europeans, living in Europe, descended from Europeans who never went to America have a certain percentage of Native American DNA. What this actually represents is DNA from Siberian sources. These peoples who were the source of these Siberian DNA segments contained in the DNA of modern Europeans were also the source of the same DNA segments present in Amerindians.
Elizabeth Warren is full of shit....and its not Cherokee shit.
But ABC says this is a *STRONG* indication that she is Native American.
As I understand it, she has a much better chance of being related to chicken s—t.
Here’s the question she needs to answer:
How many Americans qualify for government perks and assistance if she does with this amount of Indian blood?
I had an Indonesian accidentally breathe on me one time- does that make me Indonesian? Can i claim special rights now as a ‘native Indonesian/American citizen’
She’s manipulative and a liar
If anything, this PROVES she’s a FRAUD
I don’t consider myself “European Jewish” since it came back INITIALLY @ 1%. In fact, my wife and I had a good laff over that
But recently, the Ethnic Profile was UPDATED due to new technology and data. Guess What? The 1% DISAPPEARED. So did the 3% “North African” (Mediterranean)
That FAUX had to go out and “hire” a “friend” and he did an “analysis” is just a piece to this entire fraud. Declaring yourself “Native American” is as bad as Christine Fraud accusing a good man like JUSTICE Kananaugh a “groper” “abuser” whatever.
And of course, the lapdogs in the media run with it.
What a disaster the Dims and media lapdogs are.
Identity politics is bound to contain racist assumptions of various kinds. If you are white and set out to help people of various identities, you have made an assumption that they need help. That is subtly racist in itself. But if you are of the named identity group and claim a special status as a result, that is racist in that it implies a certain superior status. A “color blind” citizenship would dismiss these identities as irrelevant. In the far distant future there may come a time when the general attitude towards a claim of Cherokee ancestry is met with a chorus of yawns. I suspect that day has already arrived on the right side of the political spectrum. People are tired of fighting all the old battles that cannot have winners, just groups of losers on both sides. I take it a step further, I don’t really care much about my ancestry, I care more about where I’m going.
My kids are 50% Samoan and they don’t have the audacity to call themselves Samoan.
Or black or whatever. Yes, I bet 99% of us will be able to claim something. Maybe we should all claim being Indian? Black? Hispanic?
That makes her 0.1%. That is like a 1/10 of a penny.
So you’re saying she’s actually an illegal alien?
Deport!
She must be 1/32 injun to claim she is a legal injun.
I would think none.
Suppose a white lady and her infant get kidnapped by Comanche.
Said child is raised Comanche. Hes a Comanche. And can even become chief. (This is not a theoretical discussion, BTW.)
I know many an adopted Asian kid who became Haredi Jewish people in Israel.
The concept of race is pretty vague a fluid.
Shes a pasty white lady who faked a story for affirms action reasons.
Now shes busted on her own liberalism.
Nobody’s reporting the findings that she’s 50% donkey/horse. I guess that too obvious and not worth reporting. /sarc
