NBC Issues Correction Two Days After Falsely Claiming Trump Called Gen. Robert E. Lee ‘Incredible’

On Friday, NBC News reported, and tweeted, that President Donald Trump praised Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee as “incredible”. But on Sunday, NBC had to correct that tweet since, as it turns out, Trump was actually praising Union General (and future U.S. President) Ulysses S. Grant in the clip.

“An earlier tweet misidentified the general President Trump described as ‘incredible’ at a rally in Ohio,” they tweeted. “It was Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, not Gen. Robert E. Lee.”

That’s a pretty big difference.

That was the tweet on Friday. The correction came as a reply to that tweet on Sunday.

CORRECTION: An earlier tweet misidentified the general President Trump described as “incredible” at a rally in Ohio. It was Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, not Gen. Robert E. Lee. An attached video clip lacked the full context for Trump’s remark. Here is the full clip. pic.twitter.com/NZHj3Q2dHL

The story, which rocketed across the web, claimed that Trump was saying Robert E. Lee was the “great general” who “drank too much” but was “incredible’. In reality, as one can tell by watching the full clip, those remarks were directed to General Grant.

Trump said the state of Ohio gave the country a “general who was incredible. “He drank a little bit too much,” said Trump. “You know who I’m talking about right?”

I think Trump deliberately does this because he knows they will screw up their reporting.

Either NBC reporters are too dumb to do their jobs... or they intentionally deceive their audience expecting them to be too dumb to know any better...

Most historians worldwide do consider Robert E. Lee incredible. There is nothing to apologize for. Not only was General Lee a great warrior, his character was built on the highest morality, personal and spiritual.

I’m sure the left/media would be more than willing to call the madman Sherman ‘incredible’

Robert E. Lee was a great general ,he was incredible . I don’t think he was a drinker. Lee was a God fearing man.

Robert E. Lee was the better general. Grant had more troops, equipment and supplies

And the media is too obtuse to figure out that Trump is not afraid to call them out publicly. So the more NBC and their ilk, do this, the more people believe Trump.

Not that I’m complaining about that! :) it’s time to expose the media for what it is - a lying, manipulating, Democrat propaganda machine.

I’m an avid fan of Trump’s rallies, and he DID, in fact, praise Robert E. Lee as a “great general” and “warrior”; but, he also further praised Grant as a great General, as well.

Historically, he was correct on both counts.

Because Lee was with the confederates, you might know the media would twist the “racism” angle into it somehow.

But, in both cases, Trump was talking about courage and leadership, NOT political and social ideology.

Sherman should have been capped by a Whitworth , from the works at Vicksburg. Note to history : if you have it , take the shot

That is the plan. NBC knows only a few will hear the retraction, after the lie was proclaimed around the world.

These little measures all go into the same pot in order that they may amount to something larger on election day.

That is why Trump is wise to get in their face and head them off daily with his own tweets.

The MSM and Leftists sneer at Trump for tweeting, and then turn right around and tweet themselves.

Your average NBC viewer has no idea who the hell Robert E. Lee or Ulysses S Grant were.

There are some incredible generals throughout history. Alexander, Hannibal, Napoleon, Washington, and many others. Lee was one of them. He bedeviled the Union for years with a force half the size. He was best at mobility and surprise on the battlefield itself, and that has earned him a place in the top 100 of all time, imho.

So, if Trump had called Lee incredible, which he did not, it would have been true. It’s history just as much as napoleon is history. Patton was a great general, but so was Rommel.

Then again, Grant didn’t order Pickett’s charge against the advice of his subordinates.

Right? Robert E. Lee was indeed incredible. I wish we could dig him up, take a sample of his DNA, clone General Lee and run him for president in 2024. Just my take. lol

Lee was overly-ambitious. But that was just a product of a time when all officers before 1860 had a bit of a Napoleon complex when it came to war.

Grant was more blue-collar, and wasnt looking for his Austerlitz moment. He was willing to just wear Lee down like a machine.
