'He'll be re-elected': Trump and allies tout the sweet smell of 2020 success
The Manchester Guardian ^ | October 13, 2018 | David Smith in Washington

Posted on 10/13/2018 3:11:22 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The economy is roaring, the courts are turning right and trade wars are not producing defeats. As the president’s approval rating creeps up, is it all going right for Republicans?

A strong economy with joblessness at its lowest rate for nearly half a century. A new trade deal with Canada and Mexico. Hopes of peace in the Korean peninsula. No major terrorist attacks on the homeland. A week that began with cheers at the White House for a new supreme court justice and ended with the release of an American pastor from jail in Turkey.

An alien who landed in Washington today might be forgiven for assuming the president is a highly successful leader, wildly popular with the public. But then someone would have to patiently explain, “Let me tell you about Donald Trump …”

Opponents accuse Trump of trading in misogyny, racism, mendacity, crassness and chaos, as painfully documented by authors Michael Wolff and Bob Woodward. They also contend that the policy wins listed above are hollow. An economy built on Barack Obama’s foundations, tax cuts that favour the rich, mounting national debt; a supreme court nominee rammed through in a show of contempt for women; a love-in with North Korea’s dictator; self-destructive trade wars and a surrender of global leadership.

Nevertheless, like Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher, Trump has already passed the test of making himself consequential and handing his conservative supporters a narrative. Liberal-baiting cheerleaders include White House counsel Kellyanne Conway, press secretary Sarah Sanders and former House speaker Newt Gingrich, the author of books such as Understanding Trump and Trump’s America: The Truth about Our Nation’s Great Comeback....

The president is in good shape, but anything can happen. Fight like we’re trailing through election day.

You can’t beat somebody with nobody. And right now the Democrats have nobody.

We'll need to see what happens with the races, especially the governor races in PA, MI, WI and FL - might be an indication of our chances. Trump could be popular overall but we'll need these states again if we're going to win in 2020. It seems like things aren't going our way in Michigan, polls haven't been great for Walker in Wisconsin either. Both states have seemingly been edging right but if they've taken a hard left, that's not good.

2016 was a weird year. Jill Stein and Harambe the gorilla tipped us over the edge in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

2020 is pretty irrelevant at present. If the Republicans keep the House next month, it’s a clear path to reelection. If the Democrats get the House, things become a bit more difficult.

Kasich, his biggest enemy, was (and is) the governor of Ohio yet Trump won Ohio decidedly.

President Trump will be re-elected by a HUGE margin....God is with him, he is unstoppable.

Every weapon formed against him has not prospered & every one of his enemies has lost influence.

The GOPe & DNCe SWAMP is losing turds daily.

Many presidents have been reelected with the opposition party in control of the House of Representatives.

True, but Ohio is generally competitive and winnable for us. Pennsylvania and Michigan and Wisconsin not so much, until Trump.

The main threat to Trump’s reelection: The lunatic head of the Fed is committed to continually raising interest rates, regardless of whether there’s any sign of inflation. The rate increases could start impacting the economy some time next year.

God isn’t with him.

It’s up to us to chose to be with God, and President Trump clearly has.

Sure, Obama did it in 2012. It’ll just be a harder, with the Democrats launching one investigation after the next, with an endless stream of subpoenas, hearings, etc., with every new “bombshell” breathlessly touted as “the end for Trump!” by the media.

I know it's tiresome pointing out the absurdity of the fact-free libtard narratives, but the question needs to be posed to idiots like this writer: Exactly what "foundation" is Obama supposed to have laid that logically accounts for the noticeable economic growth spurt since Obama left office, and why didn't that brilliant "foundation" have any impact until after Trump started reversing much of what Obama did? The questions more or less answer themselves.

Agree. The democrats will never run two white hacks like Clinton-Kaine again. I can almost guarantee a Latino in the mix for the democrats. Trump does have incumbency and he is much more popular where it counts than many republicans.

I read it. It’s a hit piece.

Dems might say it’s balanced. TRUE positive things about Trump, balanced with negative LIES about Trump.

I say, “Hit Piece”.
