Pizzas must shrink or lose their toppings under Government plans to cap the calories in thousands of meals sold in restaurants and supermarkets.
Pies, ready meals and sandwiches will also be subject to the new proposed calorie limits, in a desperate bid to tackle Britains obesity crisis.
Under the draft proposals, a standard pizza for one should contain no more than 928 calories - far less than many sold by takeaways, restaurants and shops. And the recommendations suggest that a savoury pie should contain no more than 695 calories.
Public Health England (PHE) said drastic measures were needed to combat Britains obesity crisis.

Officials said the proposals were at an early stage, with discussions in coming months to decide what is feasible and achievable before decisions are made.
Under current plans, the limits would not be mandatory, but similar targets for sweet foods - which have seen a 2 per cent fall in sugar, against a target of 5 per cent - have prompted warnings from ministers that tougher steps may be taken.
Public Health Minister Steve Brine said the Government was willing to do whatever it takes to keep children healthy and well in this country.

It’s the bread that makes ya fat, not the toppings.
Good one. That’s very funny but it’s not entirely a joke.
This is communism for the government to start controlling what we eat. If you object, as I do, then stop buying Pizzas if they start dictating what a Pizza is. If they start controlling other foods, do the same. It will quickly stop, I guarantee it. Some of the politicians are jerks. If you don’t believe me, start watching U.S. Senate Floor Webcast. You will soon see who is a jerk and who is not.
It’s called “leftover” pizza for a reason. You don’t have to eat it all in one sitting.
You can also (get this) share your pizza. It gets sliced for a reason.
Unless you buy it at that place in Albuquerque.
The Ministry of Plenty has raised the pizza ration from thirty grams to twenty grams.
What the hell do the toppings have to do with obesity? It's the doughy overkill crust.

Scones. Fish and chips. Shepherd’s pie. Pints. See how the Brits like the UK regulating those staples.
I spent a great deal of time in the UK (NI) between ‘93 and ‘05 for work.
Really enjoyed the local fare from traditional Irish breakfasts with amazing freshly baked breads to some of the greatest beef and ham (gammon) that I have ever experienced.
And.. potatoes.
48 different ways!
I finally agreed to try some of the local take on American food. Pepperoni pizza.
Not pepperoni. Thinly sliced ring bologna.
ICK!
They need to limit the size of the soda you order with your pizza, too.
Buy a fresh pizza dough and make your own at home.
My favorite lately has been to make stromboli using fresh dough from the grocery. Sautee a sliced onion, pack of mushrooms in olive oil, garlic and some salt/pepper. Set that aside and cook up a pack of Steakums. Chop it all up when it’s cooking, drain off the grease and toss in the onions and shrooms.
Prep the dough on a lightly oiled cookie sheet and lay down some fresh mozzie on 1/2 of it. Add the meat, onions and shrooms on top of the cheese then top with more mozzie.
Fold the other half of the dough on top and seal the edges.
Bake about 15 minutes at 400.
Good stuff.
Sounds great! I’ll be there in 20 minutes!!
And ask for diet soda.
Yup, he who pays, owns. They’ve done the pay part, now they’re getting around to the owned part. It was only a matter of time.
? Most recent WHO figures show DFMT dental health index for the US was 1.2 in 2004 (most recent year shown). For the UK in the same year it was 0.7. (DFMT is the number of decayed, missing or filled teeth - i.e. lower number is better).
When I buy a pizza to cook, I usually get one designed for 3 or 4 and add some extra cheese and pepperoni - then inhale the whole thing....that’s why, even though I love pizza, i try to keep it down to one every 3-4 weeks...gotta keep my aging but trim figure intact....
