Executives at ABC now believe that their decision to fire Roseanne Barr from their revival of Roseanne was a mistake and the network’s spin-off series The Conners may flop, according to a report from Mail Online. Two senior executives at the network told the outlet that ABC President Channing Dungey’s decision to immediately fire the actress and cancel her show after she made racially charged comments about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was a “knee-jerk” decision that they would later regret.
“We didn’t think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn’t have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,” one insider reportedly said. “This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision.”
Barr compared Jarrett to if the ‘Muslim brotherhood & Planet of the Apes had a baby,” comments that were condemned by Dungey as “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.” Yet one insider apparently suggested that ABC should instead have temporarily suspended her before making a final decision.
“They could’ve suspended her from the first few episodes without pay and had her return later on in the season,” the source explained. “I mean the season finale saw Roseanne going to the hospital for knee surgery. While they worked out her fate, her character could have faced serious complications and fought for her life, while simultaneously making Roseanne fight for her career with a national apology tour. “
“The morning the racist tweet scandal blew up, Roseanne offered to publicly apologize and do the rounds of every show but Ben and Channing weren’t having any of that and wanted her gone,” they continued.

Big Brother is a huge in foreign markets. Countries all over Europe make their own local versions of the show. I wonder if they keep it alive in the USA just for marketing or rights related reasons related to these foreign shows? Because you are right, I don't think anyone watches that show ever, not since the day it premiered.

Why was what Roseanne did was wrong? Someone is going to need to explain that to me against the backdrop of everything else that has gone on, including the trashing of Kanye West that CNN perpetrated last night.
Essentially, they slapped the ‘Stupid Ni****’ label on him.
Roseanne was WRONG, but only because Valerie Jarrett looks more like a Sleestak than she does Zora.
Channing Dungey is a black woman who hates whites. That is why she fired Roseanne.
Dungey was looking for any reason to fire Roseanne, especially when she got the phone call from Obama.

It is just so stunningly mind-boggling how out of touch these people are that they honestly thought they could fire Roseanne Barr over an act that pissed off exactly ZERO of her fans and they'd still come back and watch her show without her.
Big Brother is kept on the schedule to give Mrs. Les Moonves a paycheck and something to do while her hubby is out philandering.
so true... they are playing to the delusional too... but it just doesn’t work... they say they are speaking truth to power, but it fails miserably in humor or reality...
and the cast has trouble moving...
ABC is having an awful season and that’s before The Connors bombs on Tuesday night. They need to fire those two clowns immediately.
I posted this a few weeks ago.
Roseanne Barr hit a nerve at the time her show first ran, telling stories of a blue collar family barely above the poverty line. She and Goodman fit those roles to a T.It would be hard for her to mold a new show that wasn't a replica of the old show; she would need a totally unique new show premise. I do have an idea.
What if Barr starred in a new show that was a sort of Rosie the Riveter type show? She could play a woman foreman at a recently reopened manufacturing plant in the rust belt. Instead of playing the nagging wife to a barely hirable husband and annoying kids, she could play a strong assertive team leader at a blue collar factory.
This time, she's the rally point of getting a restarted plant operational again. The cast can include both home (if they want to make her married again) and factory workers. The factory workers would all be new to the job, with perhaps a few older returnees from before it closed (that's the spot for the "and also starring..." character actor.
Home could either be aging parents to take care of, a son who works at the factory where mom is the boss, maybe she's divorced or widowed, maybe the neighbor runs a dying mom and pop store on Main Street.
They could do union stories (strikes), political stories (trade tariffs), uplifting stories (town revitalization), military stories (hiring veterans), etc.
It might last a few seasons.

No TV executive could be as stupid as this. Or maybe they could.
My two sons, 9 and 7, watch nothing that is not on YouTube, mostly amateur videos made by teenagers, videos that have millions and millions of views. Their two younger sisters aren't far behind them. There is nothing produced by any of the cable or broadcast networks that interests them. An entire generation is growing up that is ignoring the Hollywood-centered entertainment world.
