GOP senator: Kavanaugh 'won't feel like a winner' after confirmation
The Hill ^ | 10/05/18 | JOHN BOWDEN

Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy (R) lamented the battle over Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination in an interview Friday night, asserting that neither Kavanaugh nor one of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, would come out as "winners" following Saturday's vote on his confirmation.

Ford has alleged along with two other women that Kavanaugh engaged in sexual assault during his high school and college years during periods of heavy drinking, allegations which Kavanaugh has denied.

Kennedy told Fox News that no matter the outcome of Saturday's vote, which it appears will be in Kavanaugh's favor, the process was so tainted that neither accused nor accuser could be vindicated in the end.

"There are no winners," Kennedy said Friday. "I'll bet you this time...tomorrow night Judge Kavanaugh will be confirmed and I'm very pleased. [But] he won't feel like a winner."

The Louisiana Republican and Senate Judiciary Committee member blamed the panel's ranking Democrat, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), for keeping Ford's allegations under wraps, which Feinstein has maintained was done to protect Ford's request for anonymity, for tainting the process.

"I bet Dr. Ford and her family will not feel like a winner. And it all could have been avoided, if Sen. Feinstein had just turned over Dr. Ford's anonymous note...to us," Kennedy said. "We could have investigated without the intergalactic freak show."

@SenJohnKennedy: There are no winners. I'll bet you this time tomorrow night Judge Kavanaugh...he won't feel like a winner. I bet Dr. Ford and her family will not feel like a winner and it all could have been avoided.

— Fox News (@FoxNews) October 5, 2018 Kavanaugh is expected to be confirmed following Saturday's vote, as key swing vote senators said in statements this week that they plan to support his nomination, including Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), and Joe Manchin (D-W.V.).

Kennedy attacked Democrats on Thursday over the allegations facing Kavanaugh after the publication of the FBI's supplemental background investigation, telling reporters that some parts of the report "make me angry" without explaining further.

"Let me say that again: I really wish you could read this report. There are things in here that really make me angry,” he said Thursday after viewing the report.

"Anybody who thinks politics isn’t involved in this ought to put down the bong.”

I’d like to be a mouse in the room when Justice Kavanaugh walks into that building and is greeted by Justice Thomas. Those two share a bond that only they can understand.

Same thing with Naomi Osaka’s U.S. Open win. What should have been a celebrated triumph was overshadowed by Serena Williams’ antics.

Judge Kavanaugh is a Winner to me.

How he could stand up to an entire Political Party assassinating his Character, Family and his Life’s work makes me respect him even more.

I also have to thank POTUS Trump for sticking by him. Any Republican POTUS before him would have folded like a cheap Suit, even Ronaldus Magnus.

The first time he gets a chance to vote against some Democrat bullshit you can bet he’ll feel like a winner.

BK hung in there when all thought he would peel off, like a scared dog with his tail between his legs. He persevered and forced the Demonic-rats to show their ugly hearts to the whole country. He responded to these demented bullies with righteous indignation, which spread throughout all the Republican party, and to the American people.

We have yet to see what Brett Kavanaugh’s legacy will be, but tomorrow he may become the man who was the beginning of the end of this decade of politics of personal destruction. He was the brave man who stood up to the bullies, with tears and a quivering lip, but he stood. He showed our Senatorial leaders how it was done, and now they are rediscovering their own spines, much to the delight of many of us.

He may not feel like a winner right away, but he is a great man and America owes him a debt of gratitude. I hope if he is in fact seated, that his decisions mark a return to the respect for our Constitution and the end of legislating from the bench. I’m praying that 10 years out, he will be known as the beginning of the return to some kind of normalcy in this country. If people remember the smears, I hope they remember even more BK’s determination in the face of bald-faced injustice.

oh I don’t know about that. When Ford and her conspiracy partners are arrested, he’ll be feeling vindicated for sure.

The people that brought this on him will soon be out of power or dead due to their old ages. He will be on the bench a long time.

While I agree with Sen Kennedy, that this has truly been an intergalactic freak show (put on by the left), I disagree with him that Kavanaugh will not feel like a winner, after his confirmation.

Kavanaugh will be our newest SCJ....for years to come....and, that makes him (and, hopefully all of us) the winner.

It’s wrong to moan about how things went during the process. It’s over...he is the same great judge he was and when I hear Varney and others complaining about where does he go to get back his reputation...he never lost his reputation.

Kavanaugh should not and will not dwell on the craziness of the dems. And he is smart enough to do just that.

He may not feel like a “winner’, but he will feel like an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court for the next 40 years (I hope) or so.

Not a bad ‘consolation prize’ in my book!

Kennedy is a good guy. Hilarious sayings. I watched that interview and they played a clip of Pelosi in rabid speech knocking Trump and Kavanaugh as extremists who love despots. She was ncoherent.

When asked his opinion Kennedy says, “I’m just going to be honest. She has a billy goat brain with a mockingbird mouth!” It was awesome.

I do think he was saying this should be the crown jewel of Kavanaugh’s life’s work but it has been bastardized. He’ll be a SCOTUS but he has a stain that cannot be removed. It’s an American tragedy, really.

Not battered and bruised but no doubt stunned by the number of Democrat mental cases who’ve gone cuckoo for Kavanaugh. I can imagine how he must feel about these leftist liars behaving like neo-Salem witch hunters.

Did you read the headline only and not the comment in context? Difficult to imagine what to disagree with. This man was beyond dragged through the mud - so were his parents. So was his wife. So were his children. So were his friends and his colleagues. Senator Kennedy’s remarks are merely sympathizing what was done to him in getting to this point.

Showing heartfelt sympathy for a man who has been through something no one would ever want to go through is “throwing crap on Kav”? Did you reach the article to see what he was actually saying or are you just responding to the headline only?
