Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will vote "present" as a courtesy to Montana Sen. Steve Daines as he plans to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding, which collides with the timing of the Senate floor vote for Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.
The big picture: Her vote will not change the outcome of Kavanaugh's confirmation as Sen. Daines was expected to vote in favor of Trump's pick. Though Murkowski announced earlier that she opposes Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court, she says she hopes her "present" vote "reminds us we can take very small steps to be gracious."

Senators need to be there to vote. There us a Senate tradition that allows “pairing” where a senator announces the pairing and votes “present” to accommodate an opposing vote that couldn’t be there.
Vote by your s the only thing required. Vote
Sorry, I don’t know how to read that. Is the 50 for yeas or nays?
This is a parliamentary procedure that is called in the U.S. a live pairing. It comes from the British Parliament used when a member cannot attend a scheduled vote for illness or other reason. A member, usually from the opposite party, but who stood in opposition to the intend vote of the missing member would vote present, ensuring the the ultimate outcome would not be changed. So this means that Murkowski remains opposed to Kavanaugh’s confirmation, but she will be allowed to vote present so that Blaine does not need to leave his daughter’s wedding. This will allow Murkowski to claim (dishonestly) that she did not oppose Kavanaugh. She is as low as they get.
Sorry, Duluth, lol!
Anyway, he should’ve been able to leave his vote, video-recorded and q qwitnessed by all factions.
Its not like McConnell is holding an 8-10 hour vote!
No one can vote a proxy for another Senator!
With M voting no, we need Daines vote and I dont count on Manchin staying with yes this is for all the marbles, no do overs!
With pure evil Schumer and evil DiFi, nothing should be guaranteed!
Im remembering McCain raising out of his sick and dying bed to waltz in and stick his bony thumb down! No repeats!
Indeed, but Pence can break a tie.

I don’t trust Manchin or Flake. Mitch needs to set it up so the vote can be kept open if necessary.
Daines clearly stated last night on Fox that he would definitely be present to vote. The vote is set for 9:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m. Montana time. His daughter’s wedding is probably in the evening.
If she voted no, it might set it up for a need for him to be there. This way, his vote is not needed to win.
You cannot vote absentee in the Senate.
That Montana Senator is a disgrace!
Because he is placing his personal interests ahead of the nations!
No, his duty is be at the Senate! Sorry if your senatorial duties interfere with your personal life!
A-MEN!
Im sorry but Montana Sen. Steve Daines needs to ball up and be there to vote. Thats the fucking job. There are times in my career that I had to put my personal life second because it was that important to my customers. This is one of those times.
Hope little princess ends up in a communist re-education camp due to big old manly dad skipping his constitutional duty ( biggest one in 20 years ). IDIOT. PUSSY!
The Senate vote is not final until announced by the presiding officer. It can be held open for as long as necessary to get him back if necessary.
I still think he should show up and do his job. Members of the military routinely miss important family events when their duty requires it and so could a member of the 100 person senate club.
I believe this works better...

I know that, but this isn’t the 1700s.
