The Senate is expected to stay in session all night Friday as senators brace for a final vote Saturday afternoon on Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination.
The Senate voted 51-49 earlier Friday to advance Kavanaugh's nomination. Under the chamber's rules, senators have an additional 30 hours to debate his nomination before a final vote takes place.
Senators are expected to burn up the 30 hours of debate by staying up all night to give speeches on Kavanaugh's nomination from the Senate floor.
A spokesman for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said they believed Democrats wanted to speak from the Senate floor throughout Friday night and into Saturday. A Senate Democratic aide confirmed the Senate would be in session all night.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a potential 2020 presidential candidate, was among those slated to begin speaking on Friday night, according to an advisory circulated by his office.
The rare all-night session comes as Kavanaugh appears to be a lock for confirmation.
GOP Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) announced from the Senate floor on Friday that she would support Kavanaugh's nomination, clinching the 50th vote he needed to be confirmed.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) quickly announced after Collins that he would support Kavanaugh, making him the only Democrat expected to vote for him.
Republicans have a narrow 51-seat majority, meaning they can afford to lose one GOP senator before they needed help from Democrats.
GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) voted against advancing Kavanaugh's nomination earlier Friday. She didn't specifically say at the time that she would also oppose him on final confirmation but is viewed by leadership as a likely no vote.
Bernie would vote against Kavanaugh if he was a choir boy. LOL
Oh, wow! I didnt know this!
I need to turn on CSPAN immediately and watch it all! Not!
I thought that was John Cougar Melencamp hitting on her.

Hey @LisaMurkowski - I can see 2022 from my house...

They should open the doors and let the protesters join the party and camp out with them to save Soros all those hotel room fees.
I guarantee...Bernie will stroke out before the 2020 election. Who will inherit his mantle?
DiFi has something over her...
She is her father’s child. I met him once with her in tow. It was not an encounter I enjoyed at all. I thought him a boorish bully and a power drunk dangerous man.
Did I say I did not like him?
Exactly right. That is the MAIN story. Abortion is a smoke screen. The false allegations of a teen sexual assault are totally fabricated and are only the vehicle for destroying Kavanaugh and ruining the Trump presidency.
I pray to God that all this gets exposed. There is 1,000X more evidence of this being a Deep State plot than Ford getting “assaulted”when she was 15.
Whitehorse is entertaining. I am laughing so hard. Its the projection, stupid.
“As the saying goes, Its all over but the shouting. We have reached the shouting portion of our scheduled program. Have had it losers!”
Shouting portion of the show is tonight. The next to last scene of the show is every Senator taking some time to make a video for their home district. Then as the sun sets, the final vote tally is shown on the screen with a few lines summarizing the show and how the Republicans destroyed political discourse. Thousands of women are seen walking away, tears in their eyes, vowing this isn’t over.
Angus King is a big lib. The people of Maine shoukd she this fake Democrat for false advertising when he calls himself an independent.
You are such a defeatist.
Chuckles. Naw just not the president. If I were I would be ready for the bastards.
