The Senate is expected to stay in session all night Friday as senators brace for a final vote Saturday afternoon on Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination.
The Senate voted 51-49 earlier Friday to advance Kavanaugh's nomination. Under the chamber's rules, senators have an additional 30 hours to debate his nomination before a final vote takes place.
Senators are expected to burn up the 30 hours of debate by staying up all night to give speeches on Kavanaugh's nomination from the Senate floor.
A spokesman for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said they believed Democrats wanted to speak from the Senate floor throughout Friday night and into Saturday. A Senate Democratic aide confirmed the Senate would be in session all night.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a potential 2020 presidential candidate, was among those slated to begin speaking on Friday night, according to an advisory circulated by his office.
The rare all-night session comes as Kavanaugh appears to be a lock for confirmation.
GOP Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) announced from the Senate floor on Friday that she would support Kavanaugh's nomination, clinching the 50th vote he needed to be confirmed.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) quickly announced after Collins that he would support Kavanaugh, making him the only Democrat expected to vote for him.
Republicans have a narrow 51-seat majority, meaning they can afford to lose one GOP senator before they needed help from Democrats.
GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) voted against advancing Kavanaugh's nomination earlier Friday. She didn't specifically say at the time that she would also oppose him on final confirmation but is viewed by leadership as a likely no vote.
She praised him. Havent heard a Democrat offer him a kind word.
She is a liberal. She might put a nice spin on it to fool some people but there is no reason why she shouldn’t vote yes.
Never feel sorry for these seditious malignant wretches...never.
She moved, or is moving.
I assumed, when I heard that. that she will vote ‘yay’ for him?
If necessary. But like she said she will ask to be recorded as present in the final tally tomorrow.
McConnell has got victory in the palm of his hands. he is not gonna let some sniveling republican leave. McConnell and Grassley have managed this like maestros. Keep the Senate in session. Have a guard assigned to every senator, lock the doors and get this finished.
Don’t those Dims ever get tired of jacking their jaws.
>Were sick and tired of the Constitution sitting in the National Archives, manipulating everything we do.) ~ Cory Booker
Snopes says this is a bogus quote.
I've heard that it was literally some sort of quirk in the election system.
Imagine the type of person it takes to rise up among the ranks in politics, especially dems.
It’s not too much different than hollywood I suppose. Casting couch type situations, major ass kissing and being reamed and threatened for 2-3 decades.

Booker sounded like a third rate Obama with none of the charm.
Bernie the socialist up now.
The Murky Cow’s udder is drying up. Time to get out of the milking barn.
Bernie on a rant about vote suppression. LOL
I have respect for Murkowski. I can understand why she cant do a yes vote and iif she thought her vote was needed, she would vote yes.
Enlighten us please. Why cant Murkowski vote yes?
Brilliant move by the Turtle. Let the Democrat windbags bloviate and ham it up for the cameras.....at 2am when nobody is watching.
First the lying donkeys were denied the optics they wanted of a bunch of white guys ripping into Blasey-Ford when the Republicans deftly sidestepped it by getting a female prosecutor to do their questioning for them.
Now they’re being given their chance to speak when nobody will watch.
and they’re gonna get Kavanaugh rammed down their throats anyway.
HA HA HA HA HA HA!
