Politically speaking, there is a much much less risky downside to pursuing Ford’s legal team than it was to go after Ford herself. If they can demonstrate criminal wrong-doing behind this whole thing, it would be a BIG hit on the democrats

David Laufman was the Department of Justice, National Security Division, Deputy Asst. Attorney General in charge of counterintelligence, cyber security, counterespionage and export controls.
As most people are now aware the epicenter of the DOJ/FBI Clinton-Steele operation against candidate Trump stemmed from a collaborate “small group” effort of Main Justice officials within the National Security Division (John P Carlin – head), and officials within the FBI centered around the Counterintelligence Division (Bill Priestap – head).

In his former position, Laufman would have been involved and hold knowledge of the FISA “Title-1” surveillance program initiated on target Carter Page and the “incidental” Trump campaign officials. I do not believe Ford was ever assaulted let alone by Kavanaugh. I do think she is an overwrought activist nut who deleted her social network footprint outlining her activism before trying to stop his nomination by falsely accusing him of assault anonymously. But she did not count on the dems leaking her name and having to go all in by testifying.The great thing about not being a politician is that you can say what you truly believe despite the sloganeering narratives of the MeToo movement. There are women who are truthful and women who have been assaulted. Slimebag Ford is just not one of them.

I think you’re right. Grassley watched the Democrats basically turn his committee and the confirmation process into a sick disgrace, destroy the reputation and livelihood of Judge Kavanaugh, and flood the Capitol with astroturfed protestors. That members of the committee were doxxed, that correspondence wasn’t turned over to him by the ranking member.. that’s got to piss him off.
As someone said later in the thread, while going after Ford maybe difficult politically, there’s no downside to exposing Ford’s lawyers and Democrats in the Senate for the frauds they are.
For now, until the midterms, play Ford as the victim of power hungry Democrat machine politicians who will use and abuse anyone for power. Grow Republican support while demoralizing the left.
