Joe Manchin: I’m Looking at Kavanaugh’s Life ‘from 22 to 53’ to Decide Vote
Breitbart ^ | 10/04/2018 | Jushua Caplan

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) signaled in an interview published Thursday that decades-old sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh will not play a major role in his vote on the judge’s Supreme Court confirmation. Manchin, a key Democrat swing vote, lamented the Senate Judiciary Committee’s handling of its investigation into allegations against Kavanaugh, describing the previous few weeks as “horrible” and a “circus.”

“I am looking at the gentleman as an adult from 22 to 53, thirty-one years of professional service,” Manchin told Al-Jazeera. “I am looking at him as a father. As a person in a community, how he interacts with his community. I am trying to put the human side to it.”

The red state Democrat made similar remarks told Fox News’ Chad Pergram Wednesday afternoon.

Manchin’s remarks come as Democrat Senators have begun ratcheting up criticism of the FBI’s findings. Sen. Chris Coons (D-CT) expressed concern Thursday morning that the agency did not interview Kavanaugh or his first accuser, California psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford.

This drives me crazy. Now, whenever I see a politician from the south, why does he always have a northeastern accent? It drives me CRAZY. When was the last time you heard a southern senator from NJ???

[Before casting his vote, he will have already informed the powers that be on the democrat side, that if they dare seek revenge on him for his vote, he’ll switch parties and add to the republican red wave.]

It’s not a credible threat. Manchin is more left-wing than even the most liberal GOP senator (Collins). His heart is with the far left. Whereas Zell Miller(GA), who was featured in one of Dubya’s nomination conventions, was more conservative than many conservative GOP senators.

No. Manchin is tied in his race. He was up 10 pts a few weeks ago. Failing to say he’s yes BK has cost him the lead.

He votes no and he’s torpedoed.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call West Virginia the South but we did have this Governor and then Senator from NY named Rockefeller

I know it was a Union supporter but we Yanks think of it as a southern state if not a deep South state.

Rockefeller is practically American royalty - like Kennedy, but without the bootlegging and Chappaquiddick, so that’s perfectly understandable.

Born and raised NYC boy here and still never thought of WV as the South...or I would NOT have moved here.
Not that I have anything against the South, just not sure how they would take to a NYC Catholic with an Italian name.

He votes yes and he's torpedoed. To win re-election, he is going to need Democrat and Republican votes. So who can he piss off more and still win?

Unless he casts the deciding vote, I don’t think it will matter here which way he goes.

Manchin’s family (and he) are from Farmington WV. That’s deep in coal country. Not defending Manchin I want to see him and his hypocrisy go. Unfortunately him being a native and his family deeply embedded in the state is probably why he is going to win. Morrissey is an “out-of-stater”, Maryland I think (Born in NJ) and is a former lobbyist. I am told his wife is still is a lobbyist (Pharmaceutical lobbyist!) and they maintain a house in NoVA. (Wiki says to care for an aged father who has since died. That fact will get lost in the whirlwind!) All of that will not play well here. I expect Manchin to exploit it. If its close, its likely to be enough to keep Manchin in office. I hope I am wrong.

This is what I am hearing from people since I moved back!

Please don’t apply logic to this and point out that Byrd was born in NC. That was a different era, might as well as been a different galaxy too! Current perception is what matters. Jenkins would have been a better choice to go up against Manchin.

Bunch of nonsense. He’s just deciding whether he’ll dare to defy the will of his constituents or not.
