A mile east from the U.S. Capitol, on the eve of the hearing that would transfix a nation, 17-year-old Hollis Howe sliced his steak as he listened to his mother talk about sexual assault.
Holly Howe, 45, told him about a young patient who recently came into the emergency room where she works as a nurse. The woman had been found outside her apartment door, wearing a dress but no underwear, recalling nothing from the night. Hours later, after sobering up, she looks at me and she goes, I think something happened, Holly Howe recalled to her son and husband, Gerred Howe, at the dinner table.
Do not ever, ever think that because youre both drinking and you both think that its consensual, that its necessarily okay, Holly Howe told her son.

I was taught at a Jr High birthday party that, if the spinning bottle came to a stop and pointed at me, I got to go into a room and kiss the girl whose spin it was, etc. I think we got 7 minutes; and it was quite a rush for a 13-14 year old.
Is this about Keith Ellison?
The guy I ended up with got his tooth broken for trying! I wasn’t ready for the first kiss .....he went for it and I put a coke bottle up to stop it...which unfortunately he didn’t stop in time. Ended up having a cap on his tooth and twenty years later we met and actually dated for a time. Ha!

She better be teaching him to stay away from wackadoodle libs and women will lie.
“Do not ever, ever think that because youre both drinking and you both think that its consensual, that its necessarily okay...”
Women give the same talk to their daughters so they don’t take advantage of men who are drunk. Right?
1. Malsua puts it most excellently:
“If both parties are drinking and the female is so drunk she can retroactively revoke consent, the male, no matter how drunk must always be held responsible?”
2. DesertRhino puts it perfectly:
“In the law women are essentially treated as children. They cannot be expected to be held accountable for what they do when drunk and are allowed to say I would not have done that if I were sober. A man is held fully to account for every choice he makes, drunk or sober.”
Both are far more succinct than I could ever have phrased it.
3. Do not ever, ever think that because youre both drinking and you both think that its consensual,” . . . . it is, by definition, consensual. In other words, don’t employ logic.
4. I am left wondering how the reporter knew about this dinner conversation.
Was she present at the time? (I admit I did not click on this article.)
If not, who described it to her?
If someone described it to her, is this a verbatim transcript of their description?
If not, what parts were embellished by the author?
And why? Following what journalistic principle?
5. If the journalist can dramatize the scene, let me add my own literary flourish:
“A shiver went up Hollis’ spine, as he realized that his mother named him after herself, hoping — perhaps expecting — that his nickname would be ‘Holly’.”
Better advice for women is to not get so drunk.
Here is a thought. No sex before or outside of marriage.
It wasn’t set up to be a kill joy, but to protect men, women, and children.
Coyote Ugly?
I do not have the ‘puter skills to post the “Crazy-Hot” video; can some intrepid FReeper please post it?
Been in many of those hard places with women, my FRiend, despite always trying to be a Southern Gentleman.
I love women, but have had (more than?) my share of mistreatments.
It is all good now, but there for a long while, I seriously wondered if I could EVER trust a woman again!
Yep. Thats where I was headed.
It may apply to firearms as well. Obama even suggested as much.
Start with ALL CNN "content".
In my opinion Even CNN does not come close to being as fake as the WP. The WP is like a CIA op against conservatives. They don’t even try to look unbiased.
There’s a solution for those who want to put forth the argument women are just too fragile to take responsibility for their own alcohol and drug intake: No bar or restaurant can serve alcohol to single women under age 50. How’s that?
(yes, it sounds ridiculous, but no more ridiculous than expecting men to be responsible for the irresponsible behavior of their ‘equals’)
“Girls also need to understand that if they are substantially drinking, that it is *intentionally* losing control of the situation.”
Exactly!
If I intentionally drink and then chose, while drunk, to drive a car then I am 100% liable for those actions regardless of how the person I hit was driving. I can’t go back and say that I did not MEAN to chose to drive. No no, I did not CONSENT to getting behind the wheel.... riiiight.
Great story. At one of those parties, there was one girl everyone wanted to avoid. Just my luck! We went into the side room and just talked about math and English and one thing and another until the 7 minutes were up... My buddies razzed me about it for months.
Oh you lucked out! I guess we all have stories we can cringe at now or close calls even!
One of my friends older brother (out of school) offered to give me a ride home from her house. Wouldn’t think that would be a problem or even considered possible.....he drove past my house which of course set the alarms off...in seconds he turned around and took me back when I loudly protested....threw a dime at me and said to call him when I grew up! as I jumped out of the car.
Did I tell my friend about it....of course I did!
