It Begins! McConnell Files for Cloture on Kavanaugh for Supreme Court [with a real link]
Breitbart ^ | Oct 3, 2018 | Ken Klukowski

How 'bout this? Real news from a news source. Not "just heard on Hannity," not some twitter feed.

WASHINGTON, DC – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Wednesday began the final round of the confirmation battle over the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court, filing for cloture to ensure a final vote on President Trump’s nominee by the end of this week. Shortly before 10:00 p.m. in a night session on Wednesday, McConnell filed a motion for cloture, to limit debate on the Kavanaugh nomination and force a final vote as to whether Judge Kavanaugh will become Justice Kavanaugh.

...

Under Senate rules, the motion must now “ripen” for a day. The full Senate will vote early on Friday on the motion. Although cloture requires 60 votes for legislation, only 51 votes are required for presidential nominees to judicial or executive office.

If cloture is invoked Friday morning, the final vote on confirmation will come late on Saturday afternoon.

I just read there is a Kavanaugh GoFundMe account with $500,000.00 so far. That may help take away some of the sting.

I wish they'd develop some backbone. Destroy Jeff Flake's reputation FOREVER if he votes no. He's a total sleaze, and can't think he can just vote no and walk away. The way he responded to that verbal assault in the elevator? He was afraid of something, and it wasn't physical injury. It was not normal to respond by caving; a normal response would've been to have those women detained and investigated.

Why weren't those women detained? There were close enough to kill someone if that had been their intention.

First Corker tweets he thought Kav would be confirmed - my condence rose to 90%...then McYertle filse for Cloture...probability no 99.5%.

I should say, “Yertle the Magnificient”...at least when it comes to judicial confirmations.

Once they hit 50 five more will jump on to save their butts (and it won’t help them because folks are pissed).

Whatever truly pushed Flake out of the Senate, my guess is that if he votes no the hammer is going to truly come down on him. He talks about a presidential run, which is like Hillary talking about being an astronaut.

I have no linkable source but Flake and his “good buddy” Chris Coons appeared today on NBC, I think it was them, to state that it wasn’t so much that Kavanaugh’s story was believable but that he, Flake, just wasn’t convinced he “had the judicial temperament to serve” on the Court!

So.....I, for one, believe Flake is prepared to “Flake out!”

Saint Jeffy slams Trump every single day about something, nothing new there. He’s been slandering Trump on a daily basis for years—which is why Arizonans hate him and he’ll be out of a job in two months.

His hatred of Trump is so strong, bitter, and vindictive, I’ll be surprised if he votes yes to confirm Kavanaugh.

Jeff Flake: I Will Vote to Confirm Brett Kavanaugh
Breitbart
by Sean Moran
September 28, 2018
[Excerpt from Jeff Flake's written statement, emphasis in bold mine:]
What I do know is that our system of justice affords a presumption of innocence to the accused, absent corroborating evidence. That is what binds us to the rule of law. While some may argue that a different standard should apply regarding the Senate’s advice and consent responsibilities, I believe that the constitution’s provisions of fairness and due process apply here as well.

I will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.

[Coon's reaction as quoted in the article.]
"CNN reports that when Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) heard the news of Flake’s decision, his immediate response was, 'Oh f*ck.'"

The scenario is worse for Democrats. They're expecting Flake to vote yes and Judge Kavanaugh to be confirmed.

“No Democrat will vote yes unless the R’s get to 50.”

I’m thinking Munchkin, and Heidekamp may switch to yes, they’re in DEEP DOO at home just one short month before their elections. Maybe a few more highly vulnerable Ds like Donnelly or even at this point McCaskill.

Flake is a pathetic disgrace, so glad the people of AZ recognized that long ago and made it clear he wouldn’t even with the GOP primary this year.

Six-year terms. The downside of the Obama wave in 2012, is being on defense in 2018.

Yep. Heitkemp in particular is down 10 points in the latest poll. You can bet she’s just waiting for Chuckie to give her the green light to vote for Kav.
