The upscale Italian restaurant Fiola will hire security guards after protesters confronted Sen. Ted Cruz and his wife while dining at the restaurant last week.
We are now living in the aftermath of this PR disaster," the owner said in an email to customers.
Last Monday, the senator and Heidi Cruz were chased out by about a dozen protesters regarding Ted Cruz's support of embattled Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
In the email sent last weekend, owner and chef Fabio Trabocchi said the restaurant had to temporarily take down social media accounts because of hateful comments, and reservation lines were inundated with callers taunting staff and threatening to destroy the restaurant. The email said Trabocchi and his wife, Maria Font Trabocchi, have personally received death threats.
We would have never thought such a thing was possible in the restaurant business, the email said.
In addition to extra security, staff will be retrained to avoid similar instances and encouraged customers to keep coming to Fiolas because it will emerge from this challenge quickly.

It’s time. I’ve had all I can take of this. Someone needs a beatdown as a message to others you can NOT do that. Neither side can run someone out of a restaurant. No.
Hitler's Brownshirts would be so proud of today's American Leftists.
“Thats one less Conservative vote but TWO less piece of sh.t votes.”
Absentee ballot. ;-)
I hope they lose a million votes over this persecution of Kavanaugh.
What you do is hire Carlo, the guy with no neck. Stays at the restaurant. When someone harasses a legitimate customer, he makes sure that they can never do it again.
Cabeesh?
Self imposed. You should have done something about the protesters immediately.
I’ve been told Southern US culture is very similar to Italian culture in this regard. Would you agree?
My father grew up in Baltimore and has talked about the 1968 riots and the lines that were drawn. During the curfew, Little Italy operated as normal and the restaurants were all open. There were armed men on the rooftops and patrolling the streets and everyone felt safe.
The rioters dare not cross the line.
Actually, the left wants to turn America into 1930’s Germany.
VERY.
You would welcome me in your neighborhood and I you :)
We Italians on staten island are called “rednecks” by the losers from the other four boroughs.
Some say we are southerners, we just don’t live there.
And we believe that if a person enters your house with ANY bad intent, however small, he needs to die as long as it’s legal.
Very Very hard to own a gun in NYC but not impossible.
And many of us do.
#### Cuomo and Deblasio
The founding fathers said I could have one.
That’s enough for me.
ROFL!!!
I started getting those when i was laid up from an injury for a year or so and had trouble getting about.
They still send them so it saves me a trip to the polling station :)
You are VERY CORRECT.
And why were these people able to openly talk to a wa post reporter?
Why aren’t they arrested?
God knows we would be.
In THIS case, I would be glad that my temper acted before i thought things through.
Sometimes thinking too much is no good. It freezes one from acting. I tell my nephews and nieces to think but not OVERthing things and then make your moves in life.
Had they tried to take down the Columbus statue the liberals would have caught a TREMENDOUS, TREMENDOUS beating from 100’s of Italians.
Not the ones that decided they weren’t 2nd generation Italians anymore but landed at Plymouth Rock :) Those ones moved to Westchester and some southern parts of NJ.
We here in NYC can still be as brutal as the first wave that came here.
Hard working blue collar or educated and white collar, but brutal nonetheless when it is called for.
Same here. Took care of things "South Philly style."
