Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said Monday evening that he sometimes feels like he doesn't belong to a political party.
I sometimes feel like a man temporarily without a party, he said during a speech at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, according to The Washington Post.
Flake also criticized his party during the speech, saying members of the GOP have "given in to the terrible tribal impulse that first mistakes our opponents for our enemies."
And then we become seized with the conviction that we must destroy that enemy," he said.
Flake's speech came days after he voted in the Senate Judiciary Committee to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. He also said at the time, however, that he would support Kavanaugh in the full Senate only if there were first an FBI investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct against the nominee.
Flake's call for an investigation, and Republican Sens. Susan Collins's (Mass.) and Lisa Murkowski's (Alaska) subsequent support of Flake's suggestion, prompted President Trump to ask the FBI to reopen its background investigation into Kavanaugh.
Flake said Monday that the investigation needs to be a "real investigation," according to the Post.
It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover, Flake said. We actually need to find out what we can find out. And we have to realize that we may not be able to find out everything that happened.
The Senate currently plans to vote on Kavanaugh "this week," according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
Why would anyone want you in their ‘party’?
You don’t seem to stand on any principles, but just on self-interest...
Maybe without a party but for dang sure looney. This guy is thinking of running for president? As a republican?
He is just plain nuts.
Who wants to Party with the most hated man in America?
Lol
More like a man without honor and no country.
And the democrats are fair minded and above board in all of their efforts right?
Sometimes I feel he is without a head—just a nose
He sounds delusional to me. Like really just nuts.
It is apparent that when Ms. Ford was Testifying, there were at least two Mentally Ill People in the Room.
Jeff Flake was never voting for Kavanaugh and he isnt now. He isnt now especially since he is getting his wittle attention.
Obamacare, wall,
I think he will. This is all show. Kabuki
He thinks he's running for President, against Donald Trump, and thinks he'll switch parties and win the nomination. He can, so far, count on the endorsement of Mittwit Romney, y'know, the dog torturer?
If he wants to vote no, let him.
I have enough of his Drama Queen act to last ten lifetimes.
It is a party whenever Flake and his marxist butt buddy Coins get together.
Imo, Flake is just wamping around in a panic trying to figure out how to stay alive.
The blackmail on him must be really ugly.
Flake is unstable and seeking attention. It will be up to Collins or Murkowski. If one votes yes, then it will be a 50/50 tie with Pence deciding it for Kavanaugh<<<
If Flake Votes No, it’s 50/50 and Pence casts the deciding Vote. If any other Republican Votes No, it’s over.
I think it’s time for a thorough investigation into Jeff Flake all the way back to his diaper pins. Maybe further than that since that was only 5 years ago.
There’s something criminal going on with this guy. I can feel it in my bones. He is corrupted/compromised somehow. A Judas. A Benedict Arnold. Someone is pulling his strings for a promise of a job or something. From the left; he might even have gotten some death threats against him and his family.
I can say he better leave AZ if he votes no on Kav. We don’t like traitors at all. He should take his entire family with him. That’s not a threat. I just know how many of the people in this state think. I wouldn’t want to cross them this way either. Something like this would be taken very personally by a lot of people in AZ. All it takes is one who has terminal cancer who would be willing to even the score.
I dont want to hear from him hope he ends up driving a snow cone truck
Believe the Democratic Senator from West Virginia will vote yes. Republicans can lose two votes.
