Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said Monday evening that he sometimes feels like he doesn't belong to a political party.
I sometimes feel like a man temporarily without a party, he said during a speech at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, according to The Washington Post.
Flake also criticized his party during the speech, saying members of the GOP have "given in to the terrible tribal impulse that first mistakes our opponents for our enemies."
And then we become seized with the conviction that we must destroy that enemy," he said.
Flake's speech came days after he voted in the Senate Judiciary Committee to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. He also said at the time, however, that he would support Kavanaugh in the full Senate only if there were first an FBI investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct against the nominee.
Flake's call for an investigation, and Republican Sens. Susan Collins's (Mass.) and Lisa Murkowski's (Alaska) subsequent support of Flake's suggestion, prompted President Trump to ask the FBI to reopen its background investigation into Kavanaugh.
Flake said Monday that the investigation needs to be a "real investigation," according to the Post.
It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover, Flake said. We actually need to find out what we can find out. And we have to realize that we may not be able to find out everything that happened.
The Senate currently plans to vote on Kavanaugh "this week," according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
And then we become seized with the conviction that we must destroy...”
This is why he can't win. Like Mr. Magoo, he sees no destruction in Democrat tactics. So he can't feel righteous indignation toward them. When Republicans (finally) are moved to express anger, he misperceives it as a fundamental desire to destroy.
That video of the destructive Soros operatives revealed a man without moral principles, and scared.
You're not far enough away yet.
You watched as the Democrats said they would do ANYTHING to stop Kavanaugh and you blame the Republicans for tribalism??? You cannot go away soon enough!!!
No, Jeff, you are without a spine.
Wow! Doesn’t Arizona have a right-leaning newspaper anymore? Their opinion writers could be having the time of their lives roasting this guy over the coals.
And then we become seized with the conviction that we must destroy that enemy,” he said.
I think he described my feelings exactly.
Now that his patron McPain is no longer around to hide under his shadow, he suddenly feels naked & exposed for all his betrayal?
No, Snowflake. You have a party. The Communist Party. Just admit it and get it over with.
Flake is unstable and seeking attention. It will be up to Collins or Murkowski. If one votes yes, then it will be a 50/50 tie with Pence deciding it for Kavanaugh. If all three vote no, they go down in infamy. Flake is finished politically and emotionally regardless what he does.
Sometime back Flake decided to do what every young politician does upon realizing he can't be reelected to his current job. He decides to run for a higher office (like President) where a larger group of voters that don't know him might can be confused.
But there is no clear path forward for Flake. There are not enough Bush/Rockefeller Republicans left to get him the GOP nomination.
And the Democrats, who like dishonest liberals like Flake well enough, already have more dishonest liberal politicos than they could elect in 10 lifetimes.
Flakes best hope is that the DNC polling will show the 2020 national ticket needs a proven, weak, impotent white male as the VP candidate.
I never paid any attention to this guy before. He’s a complete ignoramus.
You IDIOT you are without a party, YOU brought it on yourself!!!!
Our newspapers suck, just like our Republicans.
Benedict Arnold though he was without a country too.
Thats OK.
Ann Coulter said one of her repressed memories was of Jeff Flake as a Republican.
It's NOT temporary - it's forever...
Flake and Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas have a lot in common.
Hes recovering from a moonbat attack in an elevator.
And whose fault is that, Flaky?
