Maybe the optics required a female special counsel. But wasn't it possible to find someone who understands that the job of a prosecutor is to undermine the credibility of any witness testifying against the victim he's supposed to be representing?
In the case of the alleged event sketchily recalled by Christine Ford, this shouldn't have been difficult.
Any good attorney does not stick to scripted questions and takes advantages of openings provided by witnesses. This is something Rachel "Creampuff" Mitchell failed to do.
The special counsel needed to use all her time to question Ford about five things:
1. How well she knew Brett Kavanaugh
2. The alleged assault
3. The process by which she recovered the memory
4. The impact on her life
5. Why she chose to come forward when she did and what her expectations were
It's fine to lob a softball or two at the start; you want the witness to feel comfortable and trusting. But then you bear down and turn up the heat.
Instead, we got repeated questions about irrelevancies such as where the polygraph test took place; who ordered and paid for it; who was paying for Ford's lawyers; and the dates of various communications with Anna Eshoo, Dianne Feinstein, the lawyers, and the Washington Post.
Here are some things Creampuff should have asked:
1. How well did Ford know Kavanaugh?
This is crucial, given that Ford's best friend, Leland Keyser, told the committee that she "does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present." All the other individuals supposedly at the gathering also deny being there. The obvious question is, did Ford, if she was really assaulted, misidentify the perpetrator?

Whatever, Gay Mitchell
You are the only one who doesn’t think she struck the right balance for public consumption
She was a deep state fixer. Get the pubbies to give up their time to one person who runs down the clock. Finally Graham realized they were getting rolled.
I would agree with all of these points - if this had been a criminal trial.
I might agree with some of them if this had been an actual confirmation hearing where legitimate charges and concerns were being dealt with.
Thursday’s hearing was pure bullish*t and an insult to all decent Americans. All Mitchell could do was to mitigate the propaganda points the Democrats had already awarded themselves. I think she handled the situation as well as was possible.
She was hired because Republican Senators did not want to be seen as bullying Ford.
She is known as a victim advocate.
Mitchell is not inclined or practiced to drill into the “victim’s” background, circumstances of the event, or motivations for making claims.
What did anyone think was going to happen?
Mitchell might have done fine if she had an entire morning and afternoon to cross-examine Professor Dr. Baby Talk. Her style was disarming and she was able to engage the witness.
The one area she did question Dr. Baby Talk on extensively was her contacts with Feinstein and Eshoo.
That’s an area in which it is realistic that evidence of additional contacts might turn up contradicting her testimony.
If such evidence did turn up, that would support grand jury subpoenas of Dr. Baby Talk’s deleted social media and her communications and warrants for her electronic devices.
If that can of worms could be opened, who knows what evidence of a frame-up might be discovered. So the foundation laid by Mitchell might prove very important.
But that would require an FBI and DOJ to pursue it that was not under the effective control of the swamp, however.
It was there for all the world to see. The dems ignored all of the lies and pounced on BK. Expressing compassion for BK’s family and then tried to rip BK’s jugular.
The democrats manifested their ends justify the means nature and their lack of real concern for BK’s family. I hope the world got a good look.
Noticed her demeanor changed when interviewing Kav. Very accusatory.
Women don’t have to be all that good at anything, the simply must want to do it. PC rules. Some ARE talented but none of them has to be. Was this woman in question at all in control of the questions? I’d bet she was handed a script by the mush-brained males of the Senate. I think someone along the lines of the late Dorothy Kilgallen would have left Chrissy Blowhard for dead. Kathy Crier springs to mind.
There were many missed opportunities, many other questions that should’ve been asked. She seemed unwilling to follow-up on each point.
Maybe the GOP senators told her to make each point and then back off. Whatever the case, either she or the senators (or all of them) decided to go easy on Ford.
Yup. Glad Lindsey finally realized what was going on and took back his time. He was pissed.
Mitchell may be a prosecutor but it clearly appears she was commissioned in this instance to simply ask questions, not to cross-exam or defend K (that became apparent when she added an "ok" after most of Ford's responses). She performed her role, and while she may have been too cautious it is just too close to call.
She finished her obligation by informing R members that as a prosecutor, based on Ford's allegations she would not have had a basis for justifying a search warrant, nor would she be able to bring an action against the accused. I.e., she found the complaint not credible.
I think she tried. She did not have the correct skills for the situation.
Right. I like all these random people think they are more of an expert than a real expert.
I thought she did great, especially the last five minutes.
It was all part of the Kabuki theater that was mapped out from the start. I don’t believe the dems ever wanted this new FBI probe though. I trust DJT and I believe in Kavanaugh. He will be confirmed.
I think she was taken off guard by the 5 min. format. Or not properly prepared for it. She used long trails to get to her destination, too bad the format required short trails.
Ritual was referred by a democratic staffer of Diane Feinstein.
He was plotting with the Dems from day one .
Yesterday was the ultimate screw you .
Plotting on Thursday to delay more after telling Mitch and Grassley is was a yes .
They let him get away with it.
He is NO from day one .
And this is nothing but pure Deranged Trump hate .
I bet the dems have a former coworker leftists ready in the wings.
The Rinos are playing us and Trump .
No one is this stupid to fall for Flakes Lies.
