Furthermore, the law at the time the offense occurred is the law must be applied to any charges that might be brought. For example, in 1982, assault and attempted rape were both misdemeanors and subject to a one year statue of limitations.

Interesting. Yesterday, The Judge was asked if he knew there was no statute of limitations for felony sex crimes in Maryland. Obviously, the questioner was unfamiliar with Maryland law in 1982.
The current law for attempted rape, without SoL, is insane.

If it were anyone but Flake I’d be more inclined to see your logic. That said, I think that if Collins and Murky vote no, It won’t affect the nomination, but it will markedly affect their re-election chances down the road. I don’t have a nose count, but I’ve heard that Manchin is going to vote YES. The would leave us needing only one additional vote unless some other RINO acts up. And if it ends up a tie, Pence will break it.
