A San Francisco transit terminal which took nearly 10 years to build and cost more than $2 billion was shut down Tuesday after officials discovered a crack in a support beam.
The Salesforce Transit Center had been operating for only a month. The project was financed by land sales, federal stimulus grants, district fees and taxes, bridge tolls, and federal and state funds.
Dubbed the Grand Central of the West, the terminal was highly anticipated before its opening. Sitting near the heart of downtown, the three-block structure was expected to accommodate 100,000 passengers each weekday, and up to 45 million people a year.

The new name for the facility may be the SalesFarce or SalesFart non-transit facility. /sarc
Should be the PooPoo Transit Center.
Uh, sounds like some of that stuff on SF streets came from designer’s brains. (Not to say anything about “leadership” of that sh*thole.)
The city could excavate the site and rename it the Lloyds of London Insurance Pool.
Another brainstorm engineering feat from a state prone to earthquakes that thinks it’s a good idea to build their bridges over and under.......never understood the logic in That.
Atlas Shrugged.
Were any federal tax dollars used for this charlie foxtrot?
If so, when the heck do the Congressional hearings start?!
Put Liberals in charge of something and take a wild guess as to the outcome.
By our love.
Another glaring example of how government can waste taxpayer money on a grand scale.
This isn’t the Grand Central Of The West.
It’s The BIG DIG of the West.
Remember the Boston “BIG DIG”?
Original cost estimate $6 Billion
Final cost $24.3 billion
Construction start 1991
Original completion date - 1998
Actual completion date - Dec 31, 2007
Plagued by cost overruns, delays, leaks, design flaws, shoddy wormanship, collapse of tunnel roofing, charges of poor execution and use of substandard materials, and criminal arrests.
Chinese steel?
You have to wonder how much this construction effected the foundations of the Millenium Tower. But this project had greased skids. It was impossible to oppose, or even slow down.
High Speed Rail is going to kill California.
—Chinese Steel?——
“Zabaneh said the crack was found near a weld on a stress-bearing horizontal beam. He said he did not know how long the crack was, but he told reporters that American steel was used in the center’s construction.”
Appareently not
“Sitting near the heart of downtown, the three-block structure was expected to accommodate 100,000 passengers each weekday, and up to 45 million people a year.”
Which would mean about 200,000 passengers each non-work day, which would be a first for a transit terminal (having more people show up on non-work days than work days) - OR -—
...OR, they can’t even do that level of math, which may account for their minority/woman/native engineering firm screwing up the beam sizing calculations too.
At this point, I read these stories and laugh, laugh, laugh. I hope California spends billions and billions on their choo-choo train. No one will use it, but the virtue signalling it will allow will be a sight to behold.
Maybe the designer was picked because they were of the correct skin color/race.
I bet they had a team of homeless bums design it. Now it will essentially be a bus terminal (aka: homeless center). What a pathetic joke on the working taxpayers. However, the homeless will have a nice environment in which to wander, sleep on the floors, relieve themselves, throw their trash, drink cheap wine, take drugs, have scary sex and assault naive others who find themselves there for some reason. LOL. Aren’t LIBs a barrel of laughs?
...gender, sexual orientation? (OMG, I said "orient"!!!)
Seems like the Trump administration needs a Program Manager to assess and audit state and city projects that ask for federal dollars.
Hey Mr. President, call me. I was one of the PM’s for the Trump Taj Mahal.
Looks like the ant farm I had when I was a kid.
