Don Lemon on harassment of Cruz, wife: 'That’s what he signed up for'
The Hill ^ | 09/26/18 08: | Joe Concha

CNN host Don Lemon said late Tuesday that while he didn't like the fact that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and his wife were harassed and driven out of a Washington, D.C. restaurant by protesters, it's what Cruz "signed up for" as a public official.

“I don’t like it, but it is one reason I’m not a public official, that I’m not running for office," Lemon said to Chris Cuomo as the latter was handing off his show.

"In a way, I think it goes with the territory. I don’t like that they were blocking his wife, but that’s what he signed up for. And as a strict constitutionalist, which Ted Cruz is, he knows it is protected under the First Amendment," he continued.

"I don’t like it. I don’t like it happening to his wife. That’s what he signed up for. That’s part of the deal,” Lemon concluded.

The perspective comes after protesters opposed to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh accosted Cruz and his wife Monday evening, chanting "We believe survivors" while demanding to know why he would vote for Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

Cruz and his wife left the restaurant as protesters peppered him with questions regarding Kavanaugh, who has been accused by two women for sexual misconduct at a party in high school and college, respectively, in the 1980s.

Smash Racism, an Twitter account affiliated with Antifa, warned in a tweet after the protest was over that that Cruz, President Trump, Kavanaugh and other "right-wing scum" are "not safe."

"You are not safe,” the group wrote. “We will find you. We will expose you. We will take from you the peace you have taken from so many others.”

According to Twitter rules, users may not exercise "behavior that crosses the line into abuse, including behavior that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another user’s voice.”

“You may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so,” the social media company's rules state. “We consider abusive behavior an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice.”

Kavanaugh and Ford are both scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

The committee announced Tuesday evening that it plans to go ahead with a vote on Kavanaugh Friday morning.

It would certainly be a shame if someone started shouting “CNN SUCKS” at Don Lemonade in a restaurant. But that’s what he signed up for when he took a TV job.

Gateway Pendant is reporting this morning that the owner of the restaurant, claims that he arranged Senator Cruz and his wife to return to the restaurant a short time later after they cleared out the protesters to finish their meal in peace. I think he tweeted it, like our President, because the news wasn’t telling how the story ended, and he probably doesn’t want to end up like Red Hen.

Well lets take this to it's logical conclusion. People harass and scare public elected officials. Public elected officials pass law for a special protection force with full Police Powers, including shoot to kill. Then they will fully fund this special protection force. So most will say no problem yet.

Next the special protection force will utilize proven protection actions such as blocking roads when public elected officials travel. Next, every time a public elected official goes to a 'public' restaurant or other 'public' event, the special protection force will have a floating protection bubble or complete closure of the 'public' restaurant.

I do not know when the private air planes start for the public elected officials, but that will happen.

The question then becomes how far down the rung will the protection cover? City councilman? Not covered? Just get your friend to 'call' in a threat!

Thanks Libs for the Police Slave State because guess who pays for all this protection!

I think the Feinstein forgery (inserting Kavanaugh’s name over someone else’s in the letter) and the Cruz incident will save Kavanaugh.

Once sitting US Senators and their wives (or girlfriends) can’t go out in public in DC or inside the Beltway, most of them will realize that things have gone too far.

No, it's not. That was NOT a peaceable assembly. Not by a long stretch.

Don Lemon is a public figure...we need to have some people do that to him and his husband. I’m assuming he has a husband, I’m not sure, but it would seem about right.

HEY! When you became a public figure, that is what you signed up for, right?

Is he married, does he have children? Lucky for him, the Right is more civilized than the Left.

Typical leftist comment. They say that until it is their candidates getting harassed in public.

If the ass hat Lemon “doesn’t like” what happened to the Cruz’s, why then did he make such a big deal with his statement? Another demodummie hypocrite!

Don Lemon is ok with women being harassed. That’s all that needs to be said.

Well, Don, you are a public figure, so I guess that you have “signed-up” for public harassment, eh?

“Next time he goes out for dinner, I hope a group of folks hassle Don and his husband.”

Of course Lemon would spin it into racial and homo harassment.

So people can bully Cruz because he is a public person but Trump cannot bully CNN for same reasons?

Hmm, I don’t recall that being part of the job duties. I don’t recall Heidi signing anything. Harassed by association.
