"...for calling chair umpire a thief"
NEW YORK -- Serena Williams was penalized a game for calling the chair umpire a thief during an extended argument as the US Open women's final descended into chaos, with fans booing and play delayed before Naomi Osaka wrapped up a 6-2, 6-4 victory for her first Grand Slam title. Editor's Picks
Serena accuses US Open umpire of sexism
Serena Williams said being assessed a game penalty in the US Open final was a result of sexism and said that men have said "much worse" and not been penalized. Osaka's moment: Chaos, confusion and tears
Naomi Osaka's victory over idol Serena Williams, one she had worked her entire life to achieve, was overshadowed by disagreement and controversy. About that no-coaching rule in Grand Slam tennis: Let's change it
Whether or not you agree with what went down in the US Open women's final, one thing is for sure: It's time to change the coaching rules in tennis.
The biggest issue for Williams on the scoreboard Saturday was that she was outplayed by a younger version of herself in Osaka, a 20-year-old who is the first player from Japan to win a major singles tennis title and idolizes the 36-year-old American.
During the trophy ceremony in Arthur Ashe Stadium, thousands of fans jeered repeatedly, and both Osaka, the champion, and Williams, the runner-up in her bid for a record-tying 24th Grand Slam trophy, cried.

“What will the next generation do, once they grow up.”
Become conservatives.
Good. The angry, spoiled entitled brat gets a slight punishment for doing something that would have had a white women kicked out.
Agreed 100% about the white woman
Steven’s just pissed that Michael got to Barry first, that’s all.
America used to be for underdogs, perhaps she still is.
But when a consummate OVERdog is a minority, there is some unwritten Diversity Rule saying, “This Person Is Protected; They are The Permanently Designated Winner”.
That’s especially true for endeavors that are deeply traditionally white.
Here’s a hypothetical:
Yaching is taken by storm by a dynamo handicapped hispanic yachtsman. This person gets multiple trophies, earns a big name and attracts legions of white yachting fans sublimating their unspoken White Guilt by rallying to the championship of The Heavenly Hispanic Yachtsman; it isn’t just casual interest, there is something distinctly psychological going on, here.
There’s a judging dispute:
All influential honkies and honky yachting writers assail the judges threatening the championship of their great White ness Legitimacy Facilitator.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t have non-white champions in sports historially attracting disproportionately white competitors; I think that’s fine. I’d be okay with a handicapped Hispanic yachting champ.
What I’m saying is THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON HERE, something that says something about OURSELVES, some weakness.
“They are The Permanently Designated Winner.
Did you see how the media is fawning all over tiger woods win on Sunday? Funny thing about the media’s love affair with him is by his own admission he states he is NOT black. What a weird world we live in.
True. That explains Tiger Wood and Obama. But here you had two minorities, both part black, one part Japanese. If everything else were equal, Japanese and black would trump black and white. After all, they were put in internment camps and had nuclear bombs dropped on them. But Serena Williams starts in with how she’s fighting for “civil rights and stuff” and this somehow makes her opponent’s victory hollow, because one of the three points she beat her by was a questionable call. So Osaka and Williams are both being jeered and they’re both crying as Osaka gets the prize. Totally weird.
It reminded me of two kids who had a wonderful time, and after a day at the fair they’re both crying and fighting. It was sick. But at least Williams got punished, and they didn’t go so far as to take the award away from poor Osaka. Again two kids at the end of an outing presents itself to me. Where have all the grownups gone?
That’s if they grow up. Gus Hall never did.
What on Earth are you talking about????
Er... yes... that rather goes without saying, no?
Read the story of the “Emperor’s New Clothes”...it explains the psychology of what you are saying most distinctly!
It took a child who was unclouded by moral relativism to say....”Mommy...why is that man naked?”
Completely topsy turvy from 1910, when a black man winning the heavy weight championship caused riots and lynchings. From one extreme to another.
The rule that black trumps yellow was overshadowed by the fact that 20 trumps 36
I remember grocery stores in the old days:
You gave money, got groceries. At Whole Foods and many other businesses today, there is a final step before paying (this has been fodder for South Park): You are asked to donate to The Whales, or what have you.
That's fine, but...more and more we are confronted by social causes in non-traditional venues.
And there isn't just one cancer lapel pin, there are TONS of them. I'm ribboned-out, lapel-pinned out.
And I don't get why a tennis player disputes a line call with shibboleths about "fighting for women's rights" and stuff about her daughter. The ball is in or out, yet there is a high-volume discourse about her family members, somehow.
And that reminds me of Rush's football game predictions based on lib political analysis of mascots; a Titan smashes trees underfoot, but then a 49'er pollutes rivers via gold panning, and if we weight these two against each other, etc...
It seems his humor is not far of the mark, with Serena a former slave, yet Osaka for her part was interned and then A-bombed, etc.
Winston Churchill said that “If you are 20 and not a liberal, you have no heart. If you are 40 and not a conservative, you have no head.”
People are being programmed in school not to think nowadays. They could reach 40 and still not be conservative. They could not grow up. That’s already been done with so many millennials. They’re going to have children, too. Will they, too, be embedded in snowflakery like a fly in amber? I hope they will have the cojones to rebel and rediscover logic and reason, despite the pressure to have those cojones surgically removed.
Rush is a prophet for our times. His jokes become reality.
How age-ist.
Ok, then lets make it just about tennis, starting with the chair umpire giving Serena penalties because she violated three rules, not because of him being sexist, as she claimed. The first infraction was merely a warning, (happens all the time, mostly to men) her coach was illegally coaching her, she saw it and followed his instruction on the next two points. The second was her violently smashing her racquet which the ump took a point from her, a hard fast tennis rule, The third was calling the umpire a thief and liar which she was penalized a game. IMO, she earned a default of the match for time delay,(over 15 minutes) but the ump showed restraint.
Personally, I think Serena has an issue with Asians that has never been mentioned. In 2009 the lines judge she violently and verbally attacked was an Asian woman. In addition she threatened to kill the woman. And now this episode with Osaka.
