Few first ladies have been more prepared for their close-ups than Melania Trump.
Yet the former model has not graced the cover of Vogue, Glamour or Cosmopolitan during her husbands first 20 months in office. Neither has she yukked it up with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel or other late-night TV hosts.
Thats a huge missed opportunity for the Trump White House, says Lauren A. Wright, lecturer in politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University.
Others insist Mrs. Trumps low pop culture profile smacks of media bias that extends to other women in the Republican administration. [Mrs. Trump] has this toolkit that makes her a unique, powerful surrogate. Its so rare for a White House not to take advantage of that, Ms. Wright said.
The modern first lady routinely graces the media landscape in creative ways. Michelle Obama, for example, appeared on the popular Carpool Karaoke segment on CBSs The Late Late Show with host James Corden. The Atlantic noted Mrs. Obamas appearance and described her banter with Mr. Corden as lively and watchable, but definitely driven by an agenda.

What an evil, petty, crass bunch of 2-year-olds.
Jackie was only glamorous in comparison with her immediate predecessors, Eleanor Roosevelt and Mamie Eisenhower. Otherwise, meh.
Couldnt have said it better. The immaturity of those on the Left has hit gargantuan proportions. I used to think most Dems were just wrong. Now I think they are the ultimate evil.
Our beautiful First Lady should not lower herself by yukking it up with entertainers who hate her husband and have made “jokes” about killing him. We know who she is, and we admire her.
She’s actually better off.
Has she replaced the toxic WH vege garden with a gun range yet?
Vogue, Glamour, aren’t very classy anymore; and Cosmo has always been sleazy. Why would she want to be shown in those rags and have her face associated with some of the yucky articles in them?
I feel that Joe Sr. was looking for a pretty, agreeable, and stupid wife who would be nice arm-candy for JFK in his pursuit of the Presidency.
He found all that in Jackie
You’re underestimating Jackie. I think they saw her as a way into a higher social standing.
Well said.
That's the way Right in Virginia!
Before she met/married Jack she was a cub reporter whose first assignment was to do a piece on the sole burlesque house in DC, the Gayety Theater. She made the visit, did the interview and then got engaged and quit. Don’t recall if the piece was ever published. But a deep web search will find an item about her reporting career start.
Put Melania on the cover in anything other than a Nazi uniform and watch your business get burned to the ground.
This is not because they are immature, or stupid.
This is organized. These people take orders from their management, and their management from their owners.
There wouldn’t be such an extreme degree of discipline and uniformity otherwise.
That’s publicity Mrs Trump doesn’t need. She makes her own buzz wherever she goes.
Watch the White House tour Jackie led in the day.
That’ll put the “glamorous” fabrication to rest.
Not directing this at you. That was the claim in the day.
As for Camelot, John had as little respect for his wife as Bill Clinton did for his. I will say that how Jackie handled that did show a lot of class.
Her actions after the assassination were pretty reasoned too.
She never participated in political games afterwards.
The First Lady has more class. Who would want to appear on a magazine that always has salacious cover with articles like “Fifty Seven Hot Sex Tips For The Summer’’ on every issue?
My God what a woman!
This month`s cover is commie Hanoi Jane. So in the market I flipped it so that the view is chocolates on the back cover.
