The vote on Kavanaugh MUST be done no later than Thursday or he can NOT join the court for this session.
All these dalays were meant to accomplish just that.
The vote MUST be done by the 27th.

From Senate Judiciary Chairman Sept 21, 2018 press release:
"Please respond by 5:00 pm to accept the invitation for Dr. Ford to testify on Wednesday according to the terms outlined above.
That's not a "hoping to hear from you about your thoughts on the matter" letter. The 8 page release clearly stated point by point what the committee might consider and what they would not consider in no uncertain terms.
Accept the request to testify...period.
So the committee votes on whether to send the nomination to the full senate for confirmation?

No, it's not too late. Kavanaugh can join the USSC any time. What these delays are meant to do is depict the Old White Men as demanding and unreasonable. If she wanted to testify she would have agreed. Instead the lawyers and publicists are putting up a display of pretending to "negotiate". When this is done they will get on the soapbox, lie about the details and whip stupid women (not all obviously) into a frenzy. They will protest in the capitol (even more than before) and hold marches elsewhere. It's all about publicity, the delay is part of the publicity.
In theory. But Clarence Thomas got a tie vote in committee. So it is really up to McConnell and he will ignore the committee vote if he has to.
