GOP Sen. Susan Collins (Maine), who has been viewed as a key swing vote in the Supreme Court fight, said in a recent interview that her office has received some pretty ugly voicemails over Brett Kavanaugh's nomination.
My office has received some pretty ugly voicemails, threats, terrible things said to my staff, Collins said in an interview with WVOM on Wednesday.
This has been a very ugly process and I think thats very unfortunate for everyone involved, Collins added.
Collinss remarks arrive on the heels of reports earlier this month in which aides for the moderate senator detailed calls and voicemails Collins' office has been receiving as the battle over Kavanaugh kicked into high gear.
"We've had some very abusive callers. ... We've had some very vulgar calls and sort of harassing the staff," Steve Abbot, Collins's chief of staff, told a Maine TV station at the time.
One of the numerous voicemails obtained by the local station included a caller who brought up a 2003 email where Kavanaugh suggested nixing a paragraph out of a draft op-ed that characterized Roe v. Wade as widely accepted among legal scholars as settled law.
"Have you seen the emails ... where he talked about Roe v. Wade not being settled law. He [bleeped] lied to you. How [bleeped] naive do you have to be?" the caller in the voicemail said.
Collins remarks also arrive as Kavanaugh faces questions about a sexual assault allegation dating back years ago from a woman named Christine Blasey Ford.
In the interview on Wednesday, Collins urged Ford to speak with the Senate about her newly-disclosed allegations against Kavanaugh, saying that it would be better for her.
Other GOP lawmakers have also been pushing for Ford to appear at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing set for Monday to review her allegations.
However, Ford's lawyers have said their client will not testify during the hearing until the FBI investigates her allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh.
When they sent her envelopes with contents that were “ugly” it means they enclosed pictures of Collins inside.
Kennedy attacked Bork, which launched this hyper partisan vetting.
Collins is not our friend! She knows exactly where she stands.
She like McCain, loves that spotlight.
Well Susan, THAT IS THE DEMOCRAT PARTY!
I hope your struggle with this isn’t to hard.
Collins expects to be courted and given favors for every vote since her vote may swing the outcome. Extortion.
I’m sure they call her beautiful and tell her she sings well and they love to hear her tell the same old stories each time and that she’s clever. What a system.
You guys, if you don’t think Obama’s outfit, organizing on America, PAYS FOR AND ORGANIZES THIS SHIT you’re only kidding yourself. Axelrod and his astro-turf posse SHUT DOWN A RADIO STATION in Chicago for daring to have Stanley Kurtz on. https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/warner-todd-huston/2008/08/28/obama-campaign-tries-shut-down-chicago-radio-show
An elite that has lost the trust of the people because the people know, what the elite will not admit....namely, that it despises them. The globalist elite should also be aware, the feeling is mutual.
Susan Collins is a laughable caricature of a responsible legislator. If she were honest (ha!), she would register as the dummocrap she is. Who cares if she got ugly voicemails? Boo!! She just wants to extend her 15 minutes of fame as being a swing voter on Kavanaugh. I have no respect for this idiot, none whatsoever. Nor do I respect the people of Maine who voted this loon in over and over again.
Doesn’t Sen. Collins realize anything about the people making these calls & why they are doing it? Better she should tell them to sit down & shut up if she doesn’t want to go through this again & again. Do yourself & the people who elected you a favor & vote what befits your Republican office. Confirm Mr. Kavanaugh!
That was the other Maine RINO who retired.
Collins has been solid on judges. She'll vote for Kavanaugh.
I smell the distinctive stench of BS
If there’s any way of identifying these people making threatening calls,I think they should be hunted down & prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Isn’t there something about threatening an elected official being a rather serious crime? It seems I have been hearing a lot about this kind of thing going on lately & maybe if they nailed a few of the offenders & somebody talked.....some cards in the deck might fall.
Good movie.
Great line.

Could be, but I think it’s because they see the end of the line for their true desires politically.
Trump has scared the carp out of people on both sides.
I agree with your thoughts there.
They probably find a way to do it anonymously.
I’d sure like to see their hind ends hauled into court over it.
Hey, Aris Folley from The Hill (The Hell)...., whoever the (bleep) you are....
Teenagers allegedly groping each other is NOT a “sexual assault!”.
When Obamacare first passed during the Obama Administration, not a single Republican voted for it.
Perhaps you’re thinking of Olympia Snowe, who voted Obamacare out of committee because she wanted it debated.
In the end, both Maine Senators voted no.
Whether they voted “no” out of conviction or whether they voted “no” because they realized there votes were not needed to pass it is another matter.
In the new Senate that’s seated next January, there will be many more Republican senators.
The power and influence of Susan Collins will be greatly diminished from that point forward.
