Im amazed that Lorne [Michaels] has gone so low. I had to watch a little of it, and I just couldnt fing believe it, Chase told the Washington Post. That means a whole generation of sheads laughs at the worst fing humor in the world. You know what I mean? How could you dare give that generation worse s than they already have in their lives? It just drives me nuts.
Its not just the current cast that Chase criticized he hasnt liked most of the most seasons of SNL.
Id have to say, that after the first two years, it went downhill, Chase said. Why am I saying that? Because I was in it? I guess. Thats a horrible thing to say. But certainly I never had more fun. I really loved it and enjoyed it. I didnt see the same fun thing happening to the cast the next year.
So, SNL has become banal and nothing but a self-parody. I knew that.
I quit liking it about the mid 80s.
Though some of the early SNL cast was quite talented, I never thought CC was particularly funny.
Danny Aykroyd and John Belushi had more talent in their pinkie fingers than Chevy Chase has in his whole body.
SNL scooped up the National Lampoon Radio Hour talent (voice actors) and NLR struggled along on radio and putting out albums.
But National Lampoon expanded to movies and producers hired those old NLR guys who’d gone to SNL (but had since left SNL).
SNL is still on? Who knew?
When Norm MacDonald left so did the comedy.
I don’t see “national” channels these days. tuned them out over a decade ago as the media fell on their knees to come all over Obama during the 2008 election.
But while watching DailyMotion today I saw ads for a “Daily Show” election special this year and it’s my first time seeing the replacement for Jon Stewart and he’s doing 3rd grader taunts akin to Eddie Murphy talking about the Ice Cream Truck (not the ice cream bit, just the taunts the kids use), but the host was talking about adults, not kids.
I wish there was comedy for grownups again.
I liked the original cast.....I didnt like much of the 80s casts......I liked the cast in the 90s that had Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Jan Hooks, etc........havent actually watched it now in a decade or so.
John Belushi's death, the subsequent connection with he and Robin Williams and Gilda Radner's death with her seemingly story book love affair with Gene Wilder just killed (no offense) the whole show and comedy for me.
The night the Blues Brothers appeared on SNL was the day the show died.
SNL used to be funny, before they become nothing more than an arm of the Democrat Party..they NEVER poked fun at Obama, NEVER..and IF they did they would poke fun at him but make Republicans the punch line so Chevy is right..SNL is NOT funny
The problem with libs (well, one of them) is that they don’t know the difference between mockery and humor. So, much of what they laugh at is actually cheap shots at people or groups they hate, but isn’t funny to anyone else.
The writing for the skits seem to be screwball disjointed gibberish.
It’s not coherent, let a lone funny.
It’s like they think the show is so “anointed”, that they can say “sky sunk oak” and people will roll over laughing.
They don’t even pretend to have a story line.
Even after the Chevey Chase, John Belushi, Jane Curtain, Gilda Radner, Garrick Morris days, Eddie Murphy days, there were still some great bright spots.
Today it’s a vast wasteland.
Admittedly, I haven’t watched it in a year or so. It’s so painful knowing what the possibilities are, and watching these folks destroy the brand.
The great talent from the older, non-SJW SNL should band together to form a production company to create an alternative to SNL. It would kick the ass of the current SNL zombie show.
Carnival seems to have hired the filthiest of the comedians out there. Every other word on their cruise comedy shows is f-— this, and s-— that, bull—— etc.
He’s right, it is not funny at all. I tried watching a few weeks back, and I mostly cringed. Judging from my kids and their friends, younger people are getting their humor from YouTube channels that people Chevy’s age have never heard of. Part of the reason is the shows like SNL are waaaaaaay past their sell by dates.
Even without Trump bashing it would still stink. Gilda Radner was my favorite.
SNL is but one of the institutions Hillary fears is being lost
Danny Aykroyd and John Belushi had more talent in their pinkie fingers than Chevy Chase has in his whole body.
...
So does Chevy’s SNL replacement, Bill Murray.
I’ll watch some of the good old SNL skits on Youtube, but I haven’t watched the live version in decades.
