TOOELE, Utah The owner of a female husky faces a slew of charges after the dog allegedly killed more than two dozen animals in the backyards of at least two Utah homes in just a couple of hours, according to KSTU.
Police caught the culprit a 4-year old husky and now her owner is facing nearly 30 misdemeanor charges.
One of the Tooele residents who lost several animals, Trip Kiss, runs a petting zoo with his wife to teach animal husbandry to children with disabilities. Chickens, ducks, peacocks, a turkey and a tortoise, are just a few of the zoo's residents.
In the early morning hours of Memorial Day, he said his motion sensors went off. When Kiss looked at the surveillance video, it showed a husky running around his yard and driveway. He said the husky was targeting his animals.
"He was chewing our goose that was at the back end there, he dug out the rabbits in their enclosure," Kiss explained.
In the video, Kiss said the Husky can be seen carrying away two rabbits. It trots out of the camera's view and into the dark.
When Kiss realized what was happening, he said the husky had already killed several of his animals.
"Two rabbits, two ducks, five chickens, a turkey, a goose," Kiss said.
He said the goose was specially trained.
"The goose was so friendly," Kiss said. "It would follow us around at Renaissance fairs, charities."

Unfortunately you cant shoot rustlers anymore.
You can, but you better make sure they dont get found.

“That is the traditional penalty which dogs must pay after they’ve killed poultry or livestock. No “ands”, “ifs”, or “buts”. That dog must be put down. “
Big, brave macho man. Shoot those damn dogs. Afterward, put it back in your pants.
My cat probably killed that many small furry animals and birds every month. After he died the gophers returned. Man, I miss him.
I assume nobody had a gun.
Ive yet to encounter a nice goose or one that didnt charge after people. They are some mean birds.
For a second I thought this read “Hillary goes on killing spree that leaves nearly 30 enemies dead” but then I saw it was not about that.
This dog didn’t kill for food. It killed for sport. I would have put it down on the spot.
I bet it had rabies or some brain illness of some kind.
Sad story for sure.
My cousin raised huskies to use as sled dogs and one of them got out and killed every chicken in the chicken coop. Over 300 of them in a night. My uncle wasn’t very enthused.
A dog killing chickens and ducks, say it ain’t so.
ROFL.
One of my dogs is obsessed with his squeaky ball, sometimes it seems as if it’s inside him.. just imaging!
Out here in BFE where I live, if a loose dog comes onto your property and attacks or runs your livestock, you have every right to shoot the dog and if you sue the dog’s owner it is a given that you will get money in damages-if you call the sheriff, the owner will get a fine of 500.00-that is the leash law fine for an unleashed/running loose dog-but animal control will not seize your dog or come to your place and shoot it-that kind of confiscation of property is not tolerated, whether the animal is a dog, horse or goat-the responsibility for any damages done by an animal is on the owner, not the animal-that is why you sue the owner for the cost of the livestock and whatever else you can get-loss of money makes people learn responsibility...
Huskies killing smaller animals is a known trait of the breed. They’ll even kill another pet of the owner w/o warning. I had one once. Never again.
My dad had an ill-tempered rooster on the farm he grew up at. It didnt like anyone. One day it attacked his little sister and my dad sent his dog Pete after it and that was the end of Mr. Rooster.
It was just an unsupervised/off leash animal with a strong prey drive-AKA a large dog-nothing more, nothing less...
I’d have another if I didn’t still miss my old Husky girl so much-she never liked dogs, but loved cats-took a lot of training from day one though...
I had 2 huskys harassing my Arabian horses this spring. I shot AROUND them to scare them off, but they would come back. One day, they had my stallion pinned up against his hot wire fence & they were cross-circling each other trying to get to him. More shots, but turned out to be warning shots because I waa so damned mad.
Finally found out what property they came from. Went to Animal control & they got removed & re-homed 25 miles away. Fine by me. I was ready to switch from .22 rifle to shotgun.
Good
Three of my 4 dogs love to chase the birds that come in to pick up fruit from the ground. All different breeds but all share that instinct. Fortunately the birds are smart enough to get away before the dogs get to them.
It’s so critical to make sure medium and larger dogs are secure in their yards unable to do this kind of damage.
I was talking with a lady the other day who moved in with this guy who has 40 acres out in the desert. They have 4 dogs between them. One day they took off like they do (it’s a country dog thing) and when they came back one of them was carrying a burro leg to chew on. I don’t know if they pack killed the burro or found it out there killed by something else. She came into that relationship with a puppy; now it’s grown up and part of that pack it’s there for life. Those dogs would never tolerate a 1/4 acre fenced yard. They are country dogs now.
I think rehoming is a good first choice solution if that is possible. I think in this case it would be because of the Huskie’s age and the current owner’s lack of control. Had the dog been shot in the act of killing the chickens and other animals I’d be o.k. with that. But after the fact when there are other solutions not so much.
PS. Do you ever do endurance riding with your Arabians?
