Stanford Doctors: It's Time To Ban All Semi-Automatic Firearms
Townhall ^ | 09/18/18 | Beth Baumann

Over 2,500 medical students and healthcare professionals at over 30 leading medical centers held events on Monday urging the public to treat "gun violence" as a public health crisis, The Mercury News reported.

The events were part of Scrubs Addressing the Firearms Epidemic (SAFE), a non-partisan action co-founded by Stanford’s Professor of Medicine Dr. Dean Winslow, a Republican, and fourth year medical student Sarabeth Spitzer, a Democrat. Winslow is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and flight surgeon who was deployed six times to Iraq and Afghanistan.

At Stanford, healthcare professionals spoke about the health risk associated with guns, the gun epidemic and trauma care. At the University of California San Francisco, two panels discussed California's firearms laws and recommended ways to talk to patients about firearm access, safety, and risk.

According to Spain, it's difficult for medical professionals to get involved in the gun debate because of the political nature surrounding firearms.

“If this were any other public health problem, we wouldn’t stand for it. But it’s such a hot button political topic that we lose the ability to talk about it," Spain told The Mercury News. “We’ve been a little slow. We’re politically adverse. Our mission is education and research. This is advocacy.”

Medical associations and groups have become involved in the gun control debate. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association are just a few who have thrown their hat into the arena.

Did outlawing drugs end drug trafficking and addiction?

Yeah.....folks tend to get a little hot when you talk about denying fundamental rights.

Medical Imperialism.

You are more likely to be killed by an incompetent doctor than by a person with a firearm.

Each year, doctors kill more people from medical mistakes than guns do. 250,000 Americans die each year from medical errors. Compare that to 33,000 per year from ALL gun deaths, including suicide, self defense and justifiable homicide.

Wow; time to compare medical accidents to gun accidents and have each anti-gun doctor explain at length why that difference is so huge. Well, anti-gun Doctors? I'm waiting.

According to a recent study by Johns Hopkins, more than 250,000 people in the United States die every year because of medical mistakes, making it the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.

The third-leading cause of death in US most doctors don't want you to know about

There were 489 people killed in unintentional shootings in the U.S. in 2015, the most recent year for which data is available.

Amid rising gun violence, accidental shooting deaths have plummeted. Why?

Well, then. Some of those foreign weirdos in California graduated. Wonderful. They can go back to their old countries now.

“Medical mistakes kill far more Americans...”

I read somewhere that it was about 200,000 Americans a year. Let’s compare Stanford’s share of that with all US deaths due to semi-automatic firearms.

Sounds like there needs to be a Congressional investigation.

A medical degree provides zero qualification to make such a statement. This headline might as well read "Stanford Candlestick Makers" or "Stanford Gynecologists" - their opinions are worth just about as much on the subject of violating the Second Amendment.

“Winslow is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and flight surgeon who was deployed six times to Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Gosh, he sounds important. I know when I think of how to arrange society, an Air Force Colonel is near the last on my list of who I would want to plan it.
They love the childlike existence of life on a military base and want us all to enjoy it too.

By this "logic," automobiles must be banned, as does anything that causes more deaths that semi-autos are used in... Like doctors and pharmaceuticals, thanks to both malpractice and ODs.

It’s a Constitutional right....in fact, an inalienable right.

If these left-wing gun-grabbing quacks don’t like that fact, they can pack up their crap and move their left-wing asses the hell out of America.

What we need to do is lock up criminals and the seriously mentally ill.

I have been following the case of a little girl that was kidnapped in Tucson several years ago Isabel Celis- anyway they charged a man this week in her kidnapping/murder and another girl in Tucson that has been missing and her body was found. What struck me is that guy has a rap sheet pages and pages long and yet he was walking around until the last year or so. As one woman said he got his hand slapped so many times he likely needs medical attention for his hand.

I hate to sound like a hater and blame the left for everything but they think criminals and seriously mentally ill people are people are fine roaming the streets. I am old enough to remember when both were locked up and we were all safer by far.

That’s right!

When are these liberal quacks going to take responsibility for the 150,000 - 200,000 Americans they kill every year through medical mistakes or incompetence? ‘eff these “educated” aholes.
