Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley on Tuesday raised the possibility that next week’s high-stakes open hearing to examine the sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh could be canceled if the accuser doesn’t accept the committee’s invitation.
Grassley, R-Iowa, scheduled a hearing for Monday for Kavanaugh and accuser Christine Blasey Ford to answer questions from senators about the allegation. But Grassley said during a Tuesday radio interview that his office has reached out several times to Ford and her attorneys to discuss her allegation, but has heard nothing back.

We don’t have to say she’s a liar if she doesn’t show up.
Already, the entire incident is nothing more than the current recollection of one person about something that happened 35 years ago. That recollection has no verifiable facts, except TWO — that Brett Kavenaugh was at a party with this woman and 3 other guys, and that Ford was in the room and stopped Brett from continuing.
Of the verifiable facts, BK has said he was never at such a party, and Ford has said the incident never happened.
So there is nothing substantiating anything she said. Her 2012 comments to a therapist don’t help, as the therapist said 4 people attacked her, and didn’t give the names. So one detail is different, and no other detail is given.
Her husband claims she said Kavanaugh, but there is no record of it. And worse, he never told anybody about it either. Which you have to admire these two people, even after going through couples therapy, NEITHER of them told a SINGLE other person that the knew this BK person and that BK had done a bad thing.
Well, there’s the women who don’t know BK but heard “stories” about “guys” who “did stuff like this”.
There are plenty of good arguments. You don't need to rely upon a bad one.

I was afraid the Demons would kick him out, replace him with another Demon and use that as the High Ground to go after the President and other Republicans.
The fact that there has been crickets from her family and friends speaks volumes about her character.
Ridiculous. No one from her past has come forward. The best they can come up with is a letter from her high school signed by alumni from 1967-2018, saying they believe her. That does not say anything. 1967-2018. That is filled with names of people who don’t even know her.
So, once again. Where are the people who knew her during this time period.
If Ford doesn't show when the Republicans gave her an opportunity to tell her story under oath, the Democrats will look ridiculous. She wants an investigation, but refuses to testify?
Right now, it looks like Grassley called their bluff, and they're folding. And rather than leaving the GOP vulnerable to the claim "why wouldn't you at least listen to her", he'll leave the Democrats looking like they're trying to suppress the truth.
Well, I hope you are correct and this is not just the first of many repeated delays, which would indicated Grassley was basically snookered while thinking he was doing the smart thing.
Another woman will pop up with a similar allegation but no corroboration at someone point, count on it.
I wonder if there’s a way to access what she scrubbed....
If that happens we should excommunicate arizona from the union until they get their crap together.

I have heard RUMORS that the DemocRATS have offered to DROP the smear campaign against Justice Kavanaugh IF President Trump HALTS the declassification of the FISA documents. I say NO DEAL! The accuser is nothing but a tawdry, lying slut.

I do not wish to beat a dead horse, so I hope this to be my last post on the matter.
I do not think I posed a "transparently false premise," so perhaps we disagree on what the premise actually is?
The premise I put forth from the article is that if allegations of sexual assault make one unfit for the Supreme Court, isn't that person unfit for the Circuit Court, too? In other words, why should we accept someone of lesser character in the Circuit Court?
The premise I believe you put forth is that the standard for confirming someone to an office (or specifically, the standard for elevating someone to a higher office) is different than the standard for removing someone from an office. In other words, it's easier to get in than get out.
Based on my premise, I suggested forcing their hands by making them live up to it. Are these Senators really willing to declare that Kavanaugh should be removed from the Circuit Court if they successfully block him from the Supreme Court? Would they go that far to destroy this man, or would there be a limit to how much credibility they're willing to give these accusations?
Your point that it takes impeachment to remove a federal judge makes no difference. Talk is cheap. In fact, an extreme pressure campaign can drive someone to choose to resign. After all, that's what the left is doing when they chase administration officials out of restaurants.
I never expected it to ever get to the point of starting impeachment proceedings against Kavanaugh, but I did want to put the logic out there that why would Democrats stop at blocking Kavanaugh from SCOTUS if he's such a danger to law and order? The fact that they would NOT be willing to go that far suggests that they really don't believe the charges, but are using it to block Kavanaugh from the Supreme Court, in other words, a crass political move.
