Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) said the Democrats could keep Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court seat vacant for two years if need be should the nomination fail and should Democrats take the Senate in November.
Hirono said if a replacement for Kavanaugh needed to be found, President Trump should nominate a less conservative ideologue, or else be ready for Senate Democrats to keep the court seat vacant until after the 2020 presidential election if they win the chamber in November, according to an interview with Politico Magazine.
I think weve had those kinds of vacancies before, and we certainly had over a one-year vacancy with Merrick Garland, Hirono told Politico. So the world does not come to an end because we dont fill all of the nominees.
Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court was roiled when California professor Christine Blasley Ford on Sunday publicly accused him of sexually assaulting her when the two were students at neighboring D.C.-area high schools in the 1980s. Kavanaugh has strongly denied the allegations.
The Hawaii senator said the new allegation had cast doubts about the nominee's testimony to the Senate two weeks ago.
During the hearing, Hirono asked Kavanaugh if he had ever sexually assaulted or harassed someone as a "legal adult." He responded that he had not.
It somewhat stretches credulity, lets put it that way, Hirono told Politico.. I think he didnt want to lie about it, so one way you get through that is saying, I dont remember.
Hirono also called the allegations against Kavanaugh serious, even if was 17 years old at the time of the alleged incident.
Seventeen is not exactly a baby, either," Hirono said. "These are serious allegations. She has a very credible story. I believe her. And now we have to do more than say, Well, look at the timing! and Well, its all politically motivated!"
"This has to be taken seriously," she said.
Kavanaugh and his accuser are set to testify publicly on Monday.
Yeah, but for two years?
If either of those walking corpses is hauled off the bench, then the court becomes a 4-3 split, favor of our side....
If they BOTH expire, then it becomes 4-2.
But more than likely, something shall have been done to get back up to full staffing.
If they try it, it will be the end of the Federal courts - patriots could look at them as nothing more than a DNC kangaroo klown show.
I’d like to see Obama WH visitor logs in 2012 before this woman’s “therapy session” was scheduled... Planting political seeds for ‘insurance,’ that’s how rats roll.....
How do we know if this party even took place?
That is the argument we should make
Because your argument is based on the premise that it took place and Kavanaugh was there
Yes, and one won’t be surprised to see Justice Thomas retiring during a Trump administration.
And the Democrats could have kept America crushed under a liberal iron fist for at least four years and residually longer had Hellary won as they expected.
If they want to make the Federal courts illegitimate, they're going about it the right way.
To use Mao's saying: "Justice will spring from the barrel of a gun"...
I think you are correct.
LOL. What if Ginsburg croaks tomorrow? No rush to fill that spot...
Exactly. The Dems dont think beyond one move ahead.
She is hallucinating if she thinks any leftist Democrat SC nominee won’t have a last minute charge of something offensive. Democrats own this development and should expect it to be deployed against them.
With the current make up of Republicans in the Senate, that are Never Trumpers for the most part and scurried to their safe spaces rather than a show any spine we lose. Consider the protected FR senator currently up for reelection, not a word from him in public, but multiple reports of him pleading with Grassley to delay their vote and hold new hearings. These may be Republicans, they might even have the majority, but whether as Never Trumpers or their very nature, they are weak and limp wristed. Democrats essentially run the place.
“Hawaii” is always happy to lead the charge for everything Fraudulent.
Even when they know they get Fuddy’d for it!
This woman's story is as far from credible as one could get.
She has no specifics, no "recollection" of the events, including saying initially to her therapist, that there were four boys, not the two she settled on later.
She did not "recall" a name to her therapist, but told her husband it was Kavanaugh. How convenient that that's not provable.
She wasn't sure where or who. She wasn't raped. She wasn't kidnapped. She wasn't hurt except her "regressed feelings."
This was 36 years ago. Even the FBI has declined to investigate because the alleged "incident" because of the statute of limitations and the absence of any material facts.
It's difficult to even see a "story" there let alone think it's credible. This talking head saying she believes this woman's story, is like broadcasting to the world on TV that you are stupid and can't see what's really going on here.
Damn. I wish we could dump Hawaii. The flag would look a lot nicer with 49 stars. Hawaii is just a worthless pain in the ass.
Read her bio on Wikipedia.
She was born in Japan, but emigrated to Hawaii with her mother in 1955.
They only could emigrate, because her mother retained her US citizenship, after her grandparents moved their family back to Japan (from Hawaii) in 1939, to be on the Japanese side in WWII.
Even if remotely true, I’m still trying to figure out the crime. It appears to be ‘groping’. I remember quite vividly at that age, I clumsily tried to ‘cop a feel” from time to time on a date. Sometimes I was successful, sometimes my hand got pushed away. I doubt any of those girls considered me a criminal.
Uh...Mazie...it is generally not cool to discuss your previous evening’s wet dreams in public.
Me either. When my group of students met with him in the early 2000s, he was ready to retire then.
even 6 years
