Corker: Kavanaugh accuser should be heard out before panel votes
The Hill ^ | 09/16/18 | Morgan Gstalter

Posted on 09/16/2018 6:34:45 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) called for the vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court to be postponed until the woman accusing him of sexual assault be allowed to speak with senators on the Judiciary Committee.

Corker, who doesn't sit on the committee, told Politico on Sunday that the panel should wait until Christine Blasey Ford can meet with senators.

"I think that would be best for all involved, including the nominee,” Corker said of postponing the vote.

If Ford wants her side of the story to be heard, Corker said, “she should do so promptly.”

Corker’s remarks echo those of his fellow Republican colleague Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.).

Flake, who is a member of the committee, said Sunday that he is “not comfortable voting yes” until he hears from Ford.

"And I don't think I'm alone in this,” he added.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he was skeptical about the timing of the new allegations against Kavanaugh but expressed a willingness to hear from Ford.

"If [Christine Blasey] Ford wishes to provide information to the committee, I would gladly listen to what she has to say and compare that against all other information we have received about Judge Kavanaugh," Graham said in a statement.

"If the committee is to hear from Ms. Ford, it should be done immediately so the process can continue as scheduled," added Graham, a member of the Judiciary Committee.

Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said is working to set up separate phone calls with Kavanaugh and Ford before the vote.

"Given the late addendum to the background file and revelations of Dr. Ford’s identity, Chairman Grassley is actively working to set up such follow-up calls with Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford ahead of Thursday’s scheduled vote," a spokesman for Grassley said on Sunday.

Several Democratic members of the committee as well as Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) have called on the Senate to postpone the vote, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday.

“I support Mrs. Ford’s decision to share her story, and now that she has, it is in the hands of the FBI to conduct an investigation. This should happen before the Senate moves forward on this nominee," Sen. Dianne Feinstein(D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the committee, said Sunday.

Ford, California psychology professor, spoke to The Washington Post on Sunday and detailed her allegations against Kavanaugh for the first time publicly.

The now 51-year-old professor at Palo Alto University in California described an incident between her and Kavanaugh when the pair were in high school.

She alleges that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed one summer in the 1980s and forced himself on her.

Kavanaugh denied the allegation "categorically and unequivocally" on Friday.

This is playing out similar to the Clarence Thomas Anita Hill situation.

The difference is that Anita Hill's lies were about something that an adult man did at work.

What I want to happen is for the GOP and Democrats together to say, " A 17 year old boy tried to get a girl's top off? WHAT ELSE IS NEW?"

Corker and Flake — useless cucks. No one can be surprised by this.

Both are leaving the senate this year. I assume their goal here is to run out the clock on this nomination in the hopes that their Democratic allies win the Senate in November.

If the woman puts on a show and cries in front of the camera, Kavanaugh is done.

Why is he done? A 17 year old boy tried to get a girl's top off?

What color is the sky on your planet?

It’s these two pieces of shit, Corker and Flake, were are leaving anyway and are pissed that someone like Trump doesn’t come from their country club and they’re going to help the dems because their sensibilities are so offended by him courting actual working voters and tweeting. We can win without them but Grassley and Mitch MUST HOLD THE VOTES AS SCHEDULED and win without their backstabbing votes if necessary. Remember, BOTH of them represent nobody and should not even still be in the U.S. Senate.

If I were Grassley I wouldn't let her testify. Let her file a sworn affidavit by noon on Tuesday, and give Kavanaugh 24 hours to respond in kind. The vote will be held on Thursday as scheduled. If anyone complains about it, he can blame it on Feinstein for sitting on this letter for three months and refusing to address its contents when she had an opportunity to question Kavanaugh directly about it.

If she wants to testify maybe she can clarify some of the statements made by her and her husband that appeared in the Washington Post story. Her husband is quoted as saying that in their couples therapy session his wife mentions Kavanauh is a Federal Judge and might be appointed to the Supreme Court. This seems really odd since Obama was President at the time and I doubt Ford was worried he wouldn't be re-elected. Also, the Post story mentions that Ford had an individual therapy session later and mentions a rape attempt in her late teens. A 15 year old is not in her late teens.

Exactly! If Republicans don’t vote ASAP and vote to approve, the Dems will NEVER stop with this crap. Pathetic.

I’d love to see Jeanine Pirro interrogate this fake whore. She’d leave her gutted and covered in flies, exposing her for the libtard liar she is.

That would be the usual Pubbie spineless way to handle it. Doesn’t matter, seems like it’s going to happen anyway so might as well face it head on. Did you read her letter to DiFi? If she’s grilled on that she’ll look like an idiot.

I have ZERO problem with that! I want the world to see this libtard “psychologist” coward and phoney. I also want to see more of Strzok and his little girlfriend. March them ALL out for us to see - as often as possible!

They will probably vote no after she speaks.

Why? Kavanaugh was praised to the hills by the biggest #NeverTrumper around, John McCain. He worked with George W. Bush. He has all the establishment GOP credentials these two like.

Legally I thought one was not allowed to bring up crimes of a minor once they turn 18..........so why are we allowing an alleged allegation about an act done as a minor to be heard?

It’s past time to tell the Dems to pound sand. And its long past time to pound Flake and Corker INTO sand . . .

Heck how many of us can survive this type of scrutiny? From our teenage years?

I was guilty. I went out on a few dates with different girls, and I kissed two of them, right on the lips. I didn’t ask permission. I just did it.

Some can never be appointed to any position requiring Senate approval.

When this first broke, I predicted that it would end Kavanaugh’s nomination for precisely this reason. Hell, is would not be shocked if Corker and Flake were in on this. Rush predicted that the usual suspects would accept the left’s premise.

Actually, I’d like for the Republicans to use some time to call some of Slick’s victims to testify. Maybe they could even find the waitress who was sandwiches by Teddie and Dodd.
