A Michigan teen accused of fatally stabbing a classmate was “smiling and laughing” during the attack, according to reports.
Two dozen students watched in horror as Tanaya Lewis, 17, killed Danyna Gibson, 16, with a kitchen knife in a classroom Wednesday at Fitzgerald High School in Warren, Mich., Fox 2 Detroit reported Friday.
“Witnesses said the defendant was smiling and laughing as she was chasing the victim,” Detective Donald Seidel of the Warren Police Department told a judge Friday, WXYZ-TV reported Saturday.
One blow penetrated Danyna’s heart, the station reported.
Prosecutors said Lewis screamed, “I’m going to kill her” as a teacher tried to shove her out of the classroom, according to the station.
Police said there was animosity between the two straight-A students over a boy.
Lewis is being held without bail on a capital murder charge.
She said "yes" to the judge when asked if she understood that she is facing life behind bars without parole.

Straight A students? Think there might be a bit of grade inflation there, or are is that relative to the rest of the students in that school?

The dispute over the boy was obviously in her mind only. Case of the ugly girl jealously killing the pretty girl.
Haven’t you heard? Black women have been oppressed and not allowed to show anger, so now it’s a good thing when they get angry and do whatever it is they want to express their anger. That’s what the narrative is now.
Where was the teacher when the whole thing started?
“Straight A” in a mostly black school is about a C- to D everywhere else.

Why are teens forced into an abusive environment that would win an adult millions in court? Then to totally scramble their brains they are told that school prepares them for the real world.
Remember! Behind every government teacher stand laws, truant officers, courts, and armed police. ( Real bullets in those guns on the hip. )

I will BET a million dollars that they were NOT watching in horror. I'll bet they were whooping and hollering and laughing just like we see in every "fight" video. In other words, they were encouraging it right up to the end. It was good sport. It was a girl fight.
I don’t know which aspect of this story emphasizes that our culture is on a death spiral more; the murder or the fact that these two are “straight A” students
I’ve heard of valedictorian and salutatorian of a class, but not egalitarian. Is this a new usage of the word, and could you define it for me? Not being snarky here, just trying to learn something new to me. Thanks.

I thought he was just being cleverly humorous with the egalitarian word-choice, Though, today, many of those schools simply have ten Valedictorians (not a joke)
BTW; I remember reading that same story of the two sisters in Chicago Magazine. In that version, they were denied admission to MalcomX Jr College, because their reading and comprehension level was akin to third grade.
I suppose that their Alderman demanded that they be admitted, to avoid embarrassment. Hence the remedial classes. I wonder if they ever graduated?!?!
