A man with a concealed-carry license was commended for coming to the aid of Cicero police who were engaged in a shootout with a man who shot and wounded an officer near the Stevenson Expressway Thursday, authorities said.
Cicero Police Officer Luis Duarte, 31, was shot four times during the encounter near the 4200 block of South Cicero Avenue during the evening rush hour, but it might have been worse if the armed citizen hadnt stepped in, officials said.
We were lucky enough to have a citizen on the street there whos a concealed-carry holder, and he also engaged in gunfire, Cicero Police Supt. Jerry Chlada Jr. said outside Mount Sinai Hospital, where Duarte was undergoing surgery Thursday night.

Brave man. Could have found himself taking fire from both sides.
to be clear, the Cicero cop, working with Chicago police, was not shot in Cicero, but shot in Chicago in an armpit part of the south side. Shooting occurred @ i-55 and Cicero ave exit, main drag to Midway airport.

How could the citizen do this without coming under fire from the cops? For all the cops knew, the cit could’ve been there to aid the perp. Either some info has been left out of the story and God bless the cit, or something has been left out of the story and the story smells.
OODA Loop. If an officer sees a plainclothes person providing cover fire to a fallen, uniformed officer, directing return fire against a determined, active shooter...
...it only takes seconds to ascertain the true threat.
Obviously every scenario is different and poses different risks, but this seems entirely plausible.
This reminds me of the Texas Tower Shooting in 1965 or 1966 where it was civilians with guns that took on the shooter.
One off duty deputy and several armed civilians went to the rood and ended the killing spree.
The answer to crime is not disarming citizens but having armed citizens willing to step in when needed.
Really?
Po-tay-to, po-tah-to.
Because cops are to heavy to carry.
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Ditto. Was it? (97% of the time, the news gets this wrong.)

I know that area. Youre spot on.

“The cops may be grateful but the DA will have to find something, especially if he’s a paleface. It’s urban Illinois. “
Amazingly...in my experience and observation...Illinois of all states is pretty damn good on these issues.
thanks.
is a little better since they tore down LeClaire Courts, but not much.
Someone correct me but as a Michigan CPL holder, I must seperate my ammo from my sidearm, lock both is different containers and have them out of my reach while driving thru Shit-Congo or the whole State of Illinois for that matter.
Maybe helpful, but it seems like a good way to get your ass shot, too.
An automatic weapon? Hyperbole or was it auto?
