WEIRD: FBI closes National Solar Observatory over mysterious ‘security issue’
Watts Up With That ^ | September 12, 2018 | Anthony Watts

UPDATE 9/12/18 4PM PST The issue may be related to Mercury (the metal, not the planet). On a tip from a science journalist friend who covers telescopes and who has been there, I verified the observatory uses a vat of liquid mercury as a float bearing for the giant solar telescope. According to an internal NSO/NMSU document, that bearing is “high-risk” during maintenance. If there was a major mercury spill, it might explain why the Feds are there, with FBI providing security. The amount of Mercury is said to be in the “tens of gallons” range, which is next to impossible to come by in the commercial market these days, and if it were weaponized, it would make a very nasty dirty bomb. Perhaps there’s some security issue with the mercury on-site.

The mysterious and sudden closure of the National Solar Observatory in New Mexico is sending alien hunters into a frenzy as the facility remains shut without explanation. The research institute in Sunspot was evacuated last Thursday along with a nearby United States Postal Service office for unexplained ‘security reasons.’

A spokesperson for the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) which manages the observatory said the evacuation was a precautionary measure due to a security issue. “It was our decision to evacuate the facility,”spokeswoman Shari Lifson added....

“I don’t know why the FBI would get involved so quick and not tell us anything.”

The first is mysterious but he second is not.

You've no, 'need' to know.

I wonder what that weighed?

WEll; I've slept on a feather mattress. It was really light weight IIRC.

Similar to Border Invaders.

They DO want a better life and are willing to take the risk of being caught.

Well; even last year; when I visited Eddyville, KY the sun went dark for about 2 1/2 minutes!

I have NEVER experienced THAT before; so... maybe...

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) has selected the Vortex data-sharing platform for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), a highly anticipated and revolutionary facility designed to create an unprecedented 3-D map of the universe and unveil the mysteries of dark matter and dark energy.  http://www.prismtech.com/about-us/our-clients/association-universities-research-astronomy

Doing some research just now; I can find no reference to any mercury being lost or a barometer even MENTIONED in L&C journals!

I've NO idea where I came up with this stuff I posted!

“HMMMmmm... nothing about dark web???????”

Well.....as kindergardenesque as your google search was, the Wikipedia information is some pretty scary stuff. AURA was created for and is totally run by the ‘university’ culture with no real oversight that I can see.

In other words the same people that tell us the world is ending due to ‘global warming’ and ‘it’s all the white man’s fault’ is totally in control of all the information we get from these solar observatories. Sounds a bit murky to me.

“Founded October 10, 1957 with the encouragement of the National Science Foundation (NSF), AURA was incorporated by a group of seven U.S. universities: California, Chicago, Harvard, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin. The first meeting of the Board of Directors took place in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Today, AURA has 39 member institutions in the United States and seven international affiliate members.”

Pay attention to the “39 member institutions” and go down and click on AURA Member Institutions and you will get a big list of universities. I don’t think I am willing to trust information from these people based on the biased crap we see coming out of universities today.

Let’s take a step back and look at the National Science Foundation (NSF) whose idea it was in 1957 to let these universities have control of what was built by the military. And also controls a 7 billion dollar budget that still has an Obama appointee at the helm.

“the NSF funds approximately 24% of all federally supported basic research conducted by the United States’ colleges and universities.”

That’s a pretty good cash cow that controls a lot of power. Considering we have witnessed Obama and his helpers use government agencies as their own person weapons against their enemies, I would not be surprised to find out there was something very dark going on.

There really seems no end to the convoluted conspiracy theories on FR these days.

You know, there really are many honorable, highly competent and decent scientists in the world who do band together and collaborate in ‘Associations’, ‘Institutions’, etc. which are not performing weird, nefarious *stuff*...
