Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is "screwing" over his Democratic colleagues by keeping them in session this October and therefore keeping them off the campaign trail, according to Politico's Burgess Everett.
"Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is planning to keep the chamber in session for a significant portion of October if not four entire weeks, costing Democrats key campaign trail days and allowing the Senate to continue its work into the fall, according to five Republican officials," Everett writes .
Yet, Republicans say two weeks is plenty of time for their Democratic colleagues to make their case to voters.
News: McConnell still planning to keep the Senate in session much or all of October ahead of the midterms. Will cost Democratic senators key campaign days -- and GOP will confirm even more judges https://www.politico.com/story/2018/09/11/senate-democrats-mcconnell-midterms-2018-815705
This is important for two reasons: There are far more Senate Democrats at risk of losing than Republicans, so it's politically smart for GOP to keep the Senate in. "They dont need more than a couple of weeks to campaign," Sen. Burr says of his vulnerable (mostly Dem) colleagues
McConnell compared the Senate races to a knife fight in an alley on Tuesday, so clearly the elections are on his mind. But, judging by his remarks last week, his hardline stance on Senate work also has to do with judicial appointments.
"Were going to clear the deck of all the circuit judges, an eager McConnell told radio host Hugh Hewitt.
Twenty-four appellate court judges had already been confirmed by July, a record for the end of a president's second year in office. Two more were added to that list last month.
Everett also ties the judicial confirmation to the midterms, noting that "If Democrats can pull off an upset win and take back the Senate, they can move to slow Trumps nominations."
Most significantly, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is waiting in the wings after his four days of confirmation hearings. Democrats have tried to disqualify him on a number of fronts, some suggesting he would not act as a check on the president or that he would overturn Roe v. Wade. On Wednesday, former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton claimed Kavanaugh referred to birth control as "abortion-inducing drugs." Even Washington Post editors put the kibosh on that.
Despite the distractions, Republican leadership is prepared to take a vote by October.
If the democrats retake the Senate, Chuckie Schumer will never allow a single Trump nominee to make it to the Senate floor for a confirmation vote.
So the title of the article should read, “McConnell Shows That He Is Not Entirely Stupid By Making Democrat Senators Do Their Jobs.”
Wait, the Turtle even said that the GOP Senate Majority was in play. It’s a Knife Fight in a dark Alley, or something.
As for me, I’m hoping for a 60 Seat GOP Senate.
The one question for me is, how is Cruz in trouble in deep Red Texas? I know he screwed himself with that embarrassing Speech at the GOP Convention, but he is still one of the most Conservative Senators we have and his Democrat Opponent Beto is just another Leftist Schumer lover.
Bullshit, what kind of fool believes MM is screwing Trump when he is running Trump’s nominees through the Senate at a record pace.
Blind hatred is not a good analytic tool.
You’re right, Chuckie is so ticked he could chew nails and he’ll want payback.
Well. they got the weekends and one holiday in there so..
Thats abt 18 days of work in one month.
He really isn't. O'Rourke, the democrat candidate, is very popular in California, where most of his campaign funding is coming from.
If the Dems had confirmed all of Trumps appointments they could go home
Keeping the Senate in session prevents the President from firing Jeff Sessions and making a recess appointment.
The entire deep state is protecting Jeff Sessions as he is the only one standing in the way of indictments for dozens of Obama criminals INCLUDING hillary.
IMO the President should blow all these turds out of the water and FIRE SESSIONS TODAY. Use the vacancies clause to appoint an Acting AG.
Everyone in the deep state is counting on the Dems taking the house and then firing sessions and ending the protection for the criminal deep state cabal will be impossible. The White house needs to wake up on this.
“I had a boss like that once. Seemed to think we should come to work every day and actually earn our pay. Man, I hate guys like that.”
I know exactly what you mean. You spend lots of time getting educational credentials, you jump through hoops to get a job, you dress in attire that they dictate, you show up and punch a clock, and then on top of all of these things they want you to work for several hours too. It gets ridiculous.
Imagine that, a Rat that has to work for a living!
Where was THIS headline when Schumer tried to delay the Kavanagh hearings using the 2:00pm rule, forcing McConnell to cancel floor work to keep the hearings going?
If anyone is screwing the other by forcing them to work longer, it's the Democrats who slow walked judicial confirmations and forced endless procedural delays that got us here.
Democrats played "chicken" with the clock, and are now blaming Republicans for not swerving at the last minute.

The Republicans want to make sure all of their voters show up. So they will keep saying Its a close race.
Bump!
Chuckie showed just how small he is by pulling that stunt.
What makes you think Cruz will lose in Texas? It will be a blow out. Not going to be close.
Doing a little good does not cancel out the bad and denying the Wall and immigration reforms that Trump asked for is really, really bad.
Bite me you crude ass hole
Trump will get the Wall. No need to go off on our own.
Your silly little remark does not change what I said, butt no thanks.
Oh I’m sorry- are back to civilized conversation?
I thought your ‘bullshit’ comment and ‘blind hatred’ characterization set the original tone.
While I understand that MM has set a good pace for judges, that is not his overall tone- he was/is a never-Trumper and swamp dweller. His wife is suspected (by more than a few) of being the ‘op-ed’ writer.
I veer into civilized discussion from time to time.
There were MANY people who did not believe Trump would ever make it to the nomination. Only the most lunatic, I was one of the first here to support him then declare he could become president. What was then this is now.
MM has gotten most of Trump’s agenda through the Senate which, given the fact that they are 100 little Kings, is a extremely difficult. It makes tight wire walking look like a walk in the park.
He is obviously an expert on the rules of the Senate as well as Parliamentary Procedure. This does not generally go with an ebullient personality.
But his rather dour appearance should not hide his accomplishment this term.
I apologize for my initial comment but I am sick of conservatives devouring each other without cause.
We are in the midst of an attempted fascist coup so I get a little touchy.
