The left takes iconography seriously - that's why they tear down statues - of President McKinley in America, of Sir John A Macdonald in Canada, of Field Marshal Smuts in England; that's why they demolish communal rituals and substitute their own - like "taking a knee" during the national anthem; and that's why, when man lands on the moon, it's very important to them that he doesn't plant the Stars and Stripes while he's up there. In the forthcoming film First Man, Neil Armstrong is played by Ryan Gosling, and no flag flies.
I've commented on that omission on TV, radio and in print, but the most I've ever written about the "space race" was in my book After America. The Wright brothers' first flight was in 1903. Fifty-nine years later, John Glenn became the first American to orbit the earth, and seven years after that Buzz Aldrin became the first man to fly to the moon and play "Fly Me To The Moon" on the moon - thanks to the portable cassette recorder he took with him. I wonder if that's in the movie. In a certain sense, the moon landing was the culmination of the tremendous inventive energy of the 19th century (if I had to pick a so-called "greatest generation" it would be somewhere in the latter half thereof). Half a century from the Wright Brothers to The Right Stuff - from nosediving into the neighbor's cornfield to walking the surface of the moon - followed by half a century devoid of giant leaps and even small steps.

After you went to the moon and proved you could do it again there wasn't much point in it.
That said, Dragon 2 is still planned to go around the moon and back in 2022.
I want proven pictures of our landing sites. Just saying.

They left a laser target which is still used to precisely measure the distance to the moon.
Even better.
The Democrat Party have gone all in on the strategy to destroy America’s institutions, their monuments, and their heroes. When they are gone, they will install their own which will be based on a New Great Leader and a philosophy that will make Democrat Socialism look like the American Legion.
Love FR. Thank you, Precious.
The leftists already control most institutions and have for a long time. By providing officers and board members for so many diverse institutions, they effectively control much if not most of AQmerican life.
Left wing progressives aqre a plague thet must be given a big dose of antibotics and extermioated. There can be no co existence
Lead is said to be an effective antidote.
They certainly control education, non-profits, many main street religious denominations, local urban government, and several states. They are working on corporations right now and if we lose the next two elections, we may not be able to do anything about it.
How does that work? The moon doesn't present exactly the same face to the earth certainly from month to month. And there are similar problems with repeating the position of a laser on the earth though maybe if several are used there could be a way null out the differences.

The key to going to the moon is to find a “reason” to go there an stay. There has to be a compelling reason to expend the money and live under harsh circumstances.
There needs to be some sort of natural resource that can be exploited. Otherwise, its just a nice place to visit.
A huge problem is moon quakes. Thanks to the huge differences in temperature from when the surface of the moon is lit by the sun and in darkness.
Magnitude 5-6 and worse they keep going for 10-20 minutes.
Love Steyn but disagree with him profoundly on this one.
What’s happening is a new technological civilization is being born that will dwarf the achievements of the 60’s just as the 60’s dwarfed the achievements of previous era.
The problem is cost. The cost of the 1500 mile jump into low earth orbit is too high for most ventures. The federal government can lead but they can’t get too far ahead of commerce. Because its commerce that pays for government backed ventures.
The appalachian mountains posed a smiliar barrier to westward expansion from 1650-1750. Daniel Boone is famous for breaking that barrier.
There will likely be some big technology break like space elevators or maglev space launches or something gradual like what elon musk is doing. But the rate of technological development is so fast now that likely something will happen that will take down the cost of getting people into low earth—making it cheap enough for the middle class to make the venture.
Yellowstone park was the playground of the super rich from 1880-1912 when the first two lane black top and the model T made it possible for the middle class to arrive.
Today space takes the place of Yellowstone. Space will remain a playground of the super rich for awhile longer.
Today’s 20 something’s however will get to ride into space when they reach middle age.
There's no more detail. These people are playing with themselves with our money.
The moon varies in distance from the earth from 221,500 miles to 252,700 miles. They are talking about change of under an inch and a half a year, which I suggest might be caused by perturbations from the planet Pluto. (Or the differing faces the moon presents, as I suggested before.)

Ping.
My son worked at Goddard space center. I’ve been there and was allowed to study those photographs in large format and with magnification. They are real, we went there, there is no dispute.
