SALEM, Ore. (AP) - The discovery of a black Lab named Lucy led to the unravelling of a criminal case Monday against an Oregon man who had begun serving a 50-year prison sentence.

Joshua Horner, a plumber from the central Oregon town of Redmond, was convicted on April 12, 2017, of sexual abuse of a minor.

In the trial, the complainant testified Horner had threatened to shoot her animals if she went to the police about the alleged molestation, and said she saw him shoot her dog, killing it, to make his point.

Six months after a jury convicted Horner in a verdict that was not unanimous, he asked the Oregon Innocence Project for help. The group took up his case.

When the group raised concerns in April about the case with Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel, he agreed to work with them.

Horner had insisted he never shot the dog. Finding the dog would show the complainant had lied under oath. But if it was alive, where was it?

Send the complainant to prison for the remainder of his sentence.

From the Article:

After Lucy was found, the complainant failed to attend a meeting in August to discuss her testimony, Hummel said. Last Wednesday, one of his investigators heard she was at a home near Redmond. When he pulled up to the driveway, she ran away.

She lives in another state...................

That does raise a question . . . or more. Different rules for white, heterosexual men, maybe? Oregon? A reverse Sharia rule that the testimony of a man is worth only half that of a woman? Inquiring minds would like to know.

I was wondering the exact same thing. Bad reporting? Weird laws in Oregon? I don’t know!

Curious how he was convicted in such a manner - normally that would be a hung jury.

I’m confused. He has a wife? He has an ex-girlfriend? And there is a teenager? I am not sure what is going on, but this story is not complete.

The Associated Press is not naming her because it doesn’t identify alleged victims of sexual abuse.

Even though she is a proved liar and false accuser.

Your remedy was actually part of Hammurabi's Code. Another alternative would be to put her on the hook for all the money a good plumber would have earned during the time stolen from this man's life.

The leftist press insures there is no penalty for false accusations, which results in more of them. If the woman made an accusation against a Democrat politician though they would publish all the dirt they could find on her and then some.

That’s a poorly written article. Probably a millenial, a graduate of our new-Ed.

The convicted guy’s then-girlfriend gave the dog away? She knew the plaintiff? And none of that was addressed at trial? WTH?

“”In the trial, the complainant testified Horner had threatened to shoot her animals if she went to the police about the alleged molestation, and said she saw him shoot her dog, killing it, to make his point.””

Come on! Here we go again - wasting time reading something that doesn’t make sense.

The complainant called it “her dog.” Further on in the article it says that the convicted man’s girlfriend gave the dog away... Whose dog was it? Was the complainant the man’s girlfriend?

Sure would helpful if supposed reporters today were made to get their act together before punching out a story!

Awful written story and probably my sentence isn’t much better but I’m so tired of this stuff that passes for news.

That blows my mind. I never even conceived of a non-unanimous jury convicting someone. You learn something new everyday.

Horner was accused of sexually abusing his own daughter and killing the dog to ensure she kept quiet about it.

He is currently married, but not to the mother of his daughter.

Reading between the lines it seems his ex was a complaining witness, who also lied about Horner’s current wife being an abuser.
