Rahm Emanuel ducked out of City Hall alone on Tuesday, his usual security detail walking slightly ahead of him.
Across the street at Daley Plaza, 150 activists had gathered to celebrate his vanquishing at an event called "Celebrate the End of Rahm Emanuels Reign of Terror". . .
The calm, matter-of-fact way that Rahm's rule is coming to an ending is shockingparticularly so if you compare it to the mood of eight years ago. In 2010, Obama's former chief of staff returned to Chicago from the White House poised as a conquering hero ready to assume his rightful place on the throne.
But those paying close attention have noticed how the cracks in the foundation of Emanuel's personal kingdom have grown into chasms. And more broadly, we're seeing symptoms of the creeping national decline of a kind of technocratic centrism practiced by the Clinton and Obama machine over the last 25 years. Rahm has served as neoliberalism's Machiavelli over that time, perfecting a cynical "Just win, baby" philosophy that meant making the Democratic Party rain with Wall Street cash, whipping up fear about your opponent, and then campaigning (and governing) slightly to the left.
Emanuel's many high-powered capitalist friends claimed that the mayor had more than a puncher's chance of reelection. [M]ultiple polls conducted earlier in the year for mayoral hopefuls. . . weren't so rosy for Rahm. McCarthy's numbers had Emanuel's job performance rating at just 32 percent, and Lightfoot's showed that just 31 percent of 800 Chicago voters said they would vote to reelect him. Sixty-two percent of those voters said they wanted anybody but Rahm in 2019. Those are numbers that don't bode well for someone whom David Axelrodone of the mayor's closest friendsonce described as a "heat-seeking missile" for his ability to win elections.

“...In 2015, Emanuel spent almost $75.00 per vote in terms of campaign advertising. His customary methods were to buy his elected positions....”
Standard operating procedure for the corrupt RATS.
“Center”?
Chicago seems to have the attitude that the residents and businesses don’t care about the violence if it doesn’t affect them personally. Does that ever end well?
That Marxist union leader would have beaten him last time if she had not been diagnosed with cancer.
Chicago is about to become our first openly Communist city IMHO.
Progressives ruin everything they touch. Always have, always will.
But Pat’s Guaranteed Big Fat Lifetime Pension will play NO role in his decision
The majority of downstate IL despises Chicago. I avoid going anywhere north of I-80 at all costs.
The next Mayor of Chicago won’t make a difference. The political Democratic party will see to that.
The Center????
I saw a post here showing vote totals for Rauner’s 2014 election.
Cook County 1.6 million votes (for the RAT opponent)
All the other counties, 1.8 million votes ( Majority for Rauner)
Just how many other states look like this? I know in Nevada, Clark County (Las Vegas) has two thirds of the state’s population and votes solidly RAT. Even Blue States have RAT cores. The only difference being that those RAT cores have not yet achieved majority status, but it’s coming, and coming soon to many currently Blue States.
an ObamaNation will take up the reigns.
I wondered if he could go directly to prison or if Illinois law requires that he serve a term as governor first?
Hell get a gig on CNN as political commentator.
I have worked in Chicago for over thirty years, a member of the Economic club of Chicago and former President of a Chicago based company. I have lived in a close in suburb of Chicago since 1965.
From my vantage point I can tell you that Chicago has always been a union town. And those unions have controlled everything and the Daley’s worked with the unions. But the unions started to break from Daley the younger as pensions grew. Thats especially true of the teachers union in Chicago which is totally communist. Mayor Daley on his last speach at the Economic Club of Chicago said. “The public unions of Chicago are destroying the city.” That’s pretty harsh, even for an out going democrat mayor.
Rahm, who went to High School with me, was actually trying to reform the city. But the unions were resisting him every step of the way. They own the state and the county and now they are taking full control of the city. Its always been Chicago that has kept Illinois solvent. Chicago is one of the best cities to live in and work in. From downtown to the north and northwest and the suburbs are great.
But these union bosses are taking down the city and are going to attack every part of the executive class of Chicago. Democrats will own every part of the City, State and county after this election. Which they have controlled for most of the past two decades. But things keep getting worse. And now its no longer good enough to be democrat. You now have to be progressive and pro public union.
You of course have heard about the shootings every weekend in Chicago. That has been happening for over thirty years. Its actually lower now than in the past. In the 1990s it was over a thousand murders a year. Now we are less than half that most years. But its all in the black community. Chicago is very safe everywhere else. But bullets fly in the black neighborhoods. And its very very hard to get a gun permit in Chicago. But Rahm can’t do anything about it. Because shootings actually make Rahm look bad. So the police and the black community are not actually going to help get the shootings down. So Rahm running for re-election will actually cause shootings.
Chicago and Illinois are going to crash and burn soon. The debt is huge and its getting bigger after Rahm is gone.
Hmmmm Wonder if Michelle Obama or Valerie Jarrett will run for Chicago Mayor? In any event the question is what far lefty is going to win the election after R E is gone?
I am wondering if Rahm is :
1) going to retire,
2) going to be incarcerated,
3) going to expatriate,
4) going to aspire to higher office
I doubt #1 and #4 are likely ...
The communists in Chicago are stabbing him in the back. There are no republicans in Chicago. There are only Communists and Blacks and Hispanics and old time democrats who are out of power. Rahm will not retire. He will just leave the state and city politics to the dogs that are taking over.
Thanks PBRCat. By "center", the partisan media shill means, white Democrat.
