Two of California’s best-known Democrats are slipping in the polls as the calendar advances closer to Election Day.

In fact, both Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein have only single-digit leads over their opponents, the results show.

In the race for governor, a Probolsky Research poll, conducted between Aug. 29-Sept. 2, shows Newsom leading Republican businessman John Cox by a mere 5 points, with 17 percent of respondents undecided, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Feinstein faces similar problems, with the poll showing her with only an 8-point advantage over progressive challenger Kevin de León. A quarter of the respondents told the pollsters they remain undecided. […]

The Hispanic vote has been a source of frustration for Newsom, who has basically split that constituency with Cox, despite Hispanics historically preferring Democrats, the Chronicle reported. …

In the situation where there are two Democrats running, the Republicans actually become the “King Makers”. It puts the Democrats in a weird position of trying to snag some Republican vote without alienating their base.

I am voting for De Leon. He will go to Congress as a very low seniority member. His positions will also be SO out of the mainstream that Democrats will have to disown him.

There’s no “right” answer, but I will be voting for Feinstein. I’d bet a thousand bucks de Leon comes out as a “democratic socialist” if elected and becomes a catalyst for further gains by them. Plus, Feinstein probably won’t live out her term. If lightning strikes and Cox gets elected governor, he’d appoint the replacement

The Republican party gave up on California about 10 years ago when they couldn’t get Fiorina and Meg Whitman elected.

It still hasn’t dawned on them that open borders, free trade types are unelectable pretty much anywhere these days.

So they took their marbles and went home.

“The Hispanic vote has been a source of frustration for Newsom, who has basically split that constituency with Cox, despite Hispanics historically preferring Democrats”

...and OBVIOUSLY, there’s not just a ‘Hispanic vote’ - there are dozens of Hispanic votes, as in Hispanics of different cultures, with Mexicans being in at least the upper half, if not near the top (i.e., most civilized, relatively speaking).

...and so we see why the Dems want to fill up the country not with Mexicans as much, but Central Americans.
