The New York Times scathing anti-Donald Trump op-ed, which the paper attributed to a senior official in the Trump administration, has inspired a parlor game among people trying to figure out the authors name.
Some online commentators are leaning toward Vice President Mike Pence based on just one word in the piece.
The unidentified author singles out the late Arizona Sen. John McCain as a lodestar for restoring honor to public life and our national dialogue.
The word ― which Merriam-Webster defines as either a star that leads or guides or a person who serves as an inspiration, model, or guide ― isnt that commonly used. But Pence apparently says it a lot, according to this mash-up posted on Twitter

ridiculous - anyone wanting to pose as another person would try to use distinct words that person uses.
My first guess:
Mccain hired VP Pence’s writer with the instructions when the letter should be mailed.
What's DU's theory?
I'm sorry ....am I supposed to take the author of this crap seriously?
May I ask you to recall the events of the RoveBush/Billy Bush sex tape weekend?
Pence was almost caught in that Bush/NeverTrump Paul Ryan conspiracy to take down Trump with the Bush Family’s grab p****y tape. He made one slight move to align himself with Ryan that day.
I’ll bet Bannon knows who if it’s Pence or not.
Other than that, let’s all remember Bob Woodward was outed years ago as a former Navy Intel REPUBLICAN who was working with Haig in the Nixon White House when suddenly, he was a the Watergate reporter at the Post.
Woodward’s loving and adoring books about the Bush White House also ‘splain a lot.
In any case, Pence was nearly caught up in the BushRINO attack on Trump with the Billy Bush tape that weekend. I think he went along with what Paul Ryan was saying about Trump and canceling his support rally that day and Pence was “all in” with Paul Ryan.
You have to keep your eye on these RINOs, and Pence is definitely a RINO.
Fake—if the guy used the word ALL THE TIME, no way he’d put it in column written by him!!
A second grader wouldn’t do that !
Just trying to stir up distrust.
Or whoever wrote it knows Pence uses the word and wanted to throw out a red herring. I would do that, I used to love finding/planting clues and writing mysterious notes as a kid.
I am not in the Trump administration or anywhere near D.C. for the record...
+1
It is not a requirement but the consensus is we don’t want to be in a bubble; we want to know what the left is saying and doing. Opposing articles have always been posted here and discussed.
...... Somebody's trying to push some "Trigger" buttons to get a response from the Prez. For Pete's Sake ..... It's the New York Slimes!!!
..... Don't fall for it!!!
....... Try some denizens of the FBI ....
“What’s that word Mike Pence uses a lot? I need to throw that in here so we can waste another week pretending he wrote this. Oh, lodestar, thanks. I am getting paid for this, right?”
“Excellent. You will be rewarded. Have you made a will? It is always wise to have your final affairs in order in case, umm, Mike Pence gets angry at you.”
You're right. It could be someone who doesn't like Pence.. that would fit on several levels.
Are you saying the time has come for a Wyatt Earp type vendetta ride?
Kellyanne? Probably not.
But her Never Trump scumbag husband is a possibility.
That being said, I still think it was some douche who works for the NY Times trying to stir up crap.
Kellyanne ran some tough anti-Trump ads in early 2016.
It’s the one and only thing the left does well- Marxian agitation, isolation and division.
Its fake. There is no anonymous senior official.
