The Times today is taking the rare step of publishing an anonymous Op-Ed essay. We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure. We believe publishing this essay anonymously is the only way to deliver an important perspective to our readers. We invite you to submit a question about the essay or our vetting process here.
President Trump is facing a test to his presidency unlike any faced by a modern American leader.
Its not just that the special counsel looms large. Or that the country is bitterly divided over Mr. Trumps leadership. Or even that his party might well lose the House to an opposition hellbent on his downfall.
The dilemma which he does not fully grasp is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them.
To be clear, ours is not the popular resistance of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.
But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic.
That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trumps more misguided impulses until he is out of office.

I wasn’t thrilled, at the time and said so.
Another deep mole fake Freeper no one has ever heard of.
I've lurked FR since 1998, signed up in 1999 and when Jim Robinson changed the FR software and I wasn't part of the "in" crowd, he would not give me back my original name, which was in Remembrance of my conservative daughter.
As for Jeff being the mole, I don't think so, Skippy.
I think it's the Roadrunner.
I don't trust her either; haven't since that early on leak of what she, herself said, at some dumb party...early on in this term of Trump's presidency.
This has NEVER happened, before, in the history of this nation and it's disgusting!
Look at the giant, red headline at Smudge...er, Drudge. Hideous, no?
And don’t forget to ask Smudge about that obsession with gay robots and cross dressers.
Well there are phone records.
Everything to and from the White House is meticulously logged.
And I bet every “senior staffer” has their communications scrutinized.
Penned by Trump himself as a troll, and the NYT bought it hook, line, and sinker.
Agreed I can’t believe people are responding to this attempt to make Trump respond ..lame attempt to try to gaslight somebody.
“to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions”
Really?
Trump has faults that he is working to correct, but none of them is a threat to the democratic institutions of the USA.
The biggest threat to the democratic institutions of the USA is named Robert Mueller. Mueller, and people like him, would effectively deny our country of the services of any person not already in government.
Congress should pass a law terminating Mueller ASAP.
The second biggest threat to the democratic institutions of this country is the black robed tyrants. Hopefully, Trump’s man awaiting Senate confirmation will put things right.
Sounds more like a letter to Penthouse.
Yeah, I am CERTAIN the President knows the identity of the writer (if indeed it is real). Maybe even a troll working for Trump.
Likely this was written many moons ago, saved for a time such as this....perhaps with a few edits to make it seem current.
Not worried, but itll give the Fake News a woody for a couple days.
“Trump has faults that he is working to correct, but none of them is a threat to the democratic institutions of the USA.”
I know, right?
Even if you disagree with Trump, the insane hyperbole of his enemies that the Republic is in danger is complete unhinged lunacy. It ignores the limited powers and our government structure.
Unless this guy kept Trump from nuking somebody, he’s full of it.
The only arguably “non-conservative” thing is tariffs, but even that is crap because not all Republicans are free-traders anyway.
Lol
If this is true, it's not nearly enough.
Arrest, indict, try and hang...
Drawing and quartering, followed by a wooden stake just to be sure.
Trump should also adopt the Kenyan strategy...
Ignore Congress, the Federal Courts, warm up his phone and his pen, ignore any sunpoenas, issue Executive Orders with the force of law (A la the Kenyan) and let 'er rip.
Mr President, tens of millions of us have your back.
Just say when.
He seriously needs people in the White House whose sole job is to determine who is working with him and who is working against him.
Trump needs assistance, not “resistance”.
Trump was elected. When you work to “thwart” what we the voters want him to do, you are the enemy of our democratic institutions.
We want the borders secured, welfare reduced, the trade imbalance greatly reduced, etc.
I voted. Trump’s side won as part of the democratic institution of voting.
Respect the November 2016 vote, please.
What I know, is that 1)Trump has NO idea who to pick for what 2) has a lousy record vis-a-vis picking people to be with him in D.C. 3) has had almost ZERO loyalty from those he did pick...including his own family members 4) that this is most probably FAKE CRAP!
No, I don't know Trump personally; OTOH, I worked on quite a few presidential campaigns and knew someone who he was toying with selecting, but either didn't or the person turned the post down. I also knew, even better, someone who was talked about being an Ambassador ( have yet to hear whether or not that person has been put up or not and should that person be, it will be yet another STUPID choice! ) and that person should NEVER be one!
So just stick your calumny loaded reply where the sun don't shine.
Nothing new. Unimpressed. Nothing to prove this is really from someone in the WH, though you would think they would attempt to prove that somewhere in the diatribe.
