Actress Cynthia Nixon has been routinely described as trying to become the state’s first lesbian governor.
But Nixon actually doesn't self-identify as a lesbian. She considers herself queer, campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said.
Queer - one of the Qs in the LGBTQ movement, along with questioning—encompasses people who don't necessarily feel they fall under any specific label.
Queer for decades had been used as a derisive term to attack nonheterosexuals. But in recent years, the term has been reclaimed by some - especially younger people - in the LGBTQ community.
Hitt declined to discuss the reasons why Nixon identifies as a queer rather than a lesbian or bisexual.
"It’s personal," Hitt said.
Nixon is married to Christine Marinoni, with whom she has a child. Nixon also has two kids from a previous relationship with Danny Mozes, a male.

“Queer” and “Gay” have long been discarded in relation to female homosexuals, because of some obscure politically correct interpretation that was only meant to obfuscate and baffle the straights.

They do everything they can to put themselves in political office, where they can destroy this country. I will never vote for anyone who plans to use political office to change this country from what it is to an atheist, communist, queer-friendly, muzzy-friendly $hithole.
Cynthia is pigeon-holing herself. When I think of her, which I rarely do, the first thought comes to mind is “Militant Lesbianism”, not Actress, not even Social Justice Warrior-Wannabe. I think first about what she does or does not do between the sheets, because that is how she chooses to present herself.
Even for those liberals who may consider her for office, they have to wonder; Is this “woman” even able to make clear decisions for the New York community that are independent of Gender Politics? It doesn’t appear that she is capable of compartmentalizing her thought processes.
She is first and foremost, a Sexual Liberation Zealot!
The analogue of the N-word for gays is the F-word, fag***. Queer is no longer seen as derogatory.
Hillary Clinton would have been considered a foaming at the mouth leftist in the days of JFK and LBJ. She is now considered insufficiently radical by the Sanders wing of her party.
