Michael Drejka, the man who shot and killed 28-year-old Markeis McGlockton in a July parking lot dispute that touched off a national debate over stand your ground, said Friday that he was scared for his life when he pulled the trigger.
Speaking publicly for the first time, Drejka granted an exclusive interview to local news station WTSP Channel 10. The Tampa Bay Times obtained a recording of the interview through a public records request to the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office, which tapes in-person meetings between the media and inmates at the Pinellas County Jail.
"There was only one other person that was making a move, and that move was towards me," Drejka, 48, told WTSP anchor Reginald Roundtree. He said he was "stunned" when McGlockton shoved him to the ground before the shooting.

In the words of Stetson University College of Law professor Charles Rose: "The law is set up to allow you to be as big an ass as you want to be, as long as its just with words."
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who has said the stand your ground law precludes his agency from arresting Drejka, has taken a similar stance. At a recent news conference, the sheriff, who is a lawyer, said what was "merely a discussion about why shes parked there
didnt provoke the attack." His agency has forwarded the case to the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorneys Office to decide whether to press charges.

What an idiot. Hope he represents himself in court too.
A good reminder for everyone who thinks they are the alpha male protectors of womenfolk (particularly their own) to keep their hands to themselves.
there were a lot of freepers who sided against Drejka. Now Race baiters al Sharpton, Benjamin crump, and Andrew Gillum are taking sides against him. Anybody embarassed by that yet???????
The prosecutors are going to get their heads handed to them on this one. When one of key trial witnesses for the defense is going to be the county sheriff, the prosecutor is going to need to put together a jury of reprobates.
I saw a portion of the interview. My immediate thought was that it does not seem to make any sense for him to be blabbing to the media.

I NEVER is good talking to the media. I wouldn’t,for any reason.
.
The whole purpose of having police is so people will not confront each other and disturb the peace.
We used to understand human nature and we were aware that confrontation always ends badly. Thus, we have police who are supposed to make it impersonal and unemotional.
I think the No Smoking campaign turned some of us into self-righteous buttinskies who are always embarrassing and yelling at the rest of us. Someone gets hurt.
Just because those people are lined up against him doesn’t absolutely indicate he’s in the right.
95% of the time that may hold true but not always. From what I know of the case this guy overreacted.
A word to the wise, the only comment Michael Drejka should be making is "I fired because I felt my life was in danger." That's it. Don't cite the law you followed, simply the reason you defended yourself.

we'll see what the Jury says.
That would be me. The shooter went out of his way to play parking lot cop, then wound up shooting someone to death because they pushed him to the ground.
The shooter was clearly playing cop and looking for action. Carrying CW comes with a lot of responsibility, and this guy did exactly what they tell folks not to do when they decide to take on that responsibility.
not I. Drejka should have minded his own beeswax. His mom, the handicapped person he was up in arms about, was not even there to park her car.
He is just a busybody with a gun and too much time on his hands.
Re #12:
True.
But what IS a matter of record is that he has a history of looking for trouble. He may have a history of brandishing. Frankly I think he’s a punk that longed to “Stand Your Ground” as an excuse to shoot somebody.
Now I know the victim was no prince either, but that doesn’t mitigate Drejka’s situation.
Not I. That was an irresponsible shoot. It could have and should have been avoided.
1. It is clear Drejka was in no position to retreat so stand your ground doesn’t really apply here. 2. It isn’t clear if the shooting was justified or not.
The ONLY thing you say when you are in this kind of situation is “I WAS IN FEAR FOR MY LIFE”.
Every comment, for or against what happened is missing one thing. The People commenting weren’t in the situation where they were Physically attacked and how fearful they would be.
My Opinion of what should happen to this guy is just that, an opinion. It is up to the Authorities to determine what Charges they think they can prove in a Court of Law.
Meanwhile, the Guy should keep his Mouth shut.
