His ego is dependent on his achievement of his own personal goals.
In this regard, Trump is quite rare.
Most people draw their ego support from other people...but not the Trumps.
They are self-contained.
Their egos are based on internal metrics.

I am presently reading The Art of the Deal--and I wish that I had read it 3 years ago. The book, published in the 1980s, explains just who he is. I really just sort of ignored Donald Trump until he entered politics. I keep laughing out loud as I see behaviors in the book that I have observed since his candidacy began.
