As a native Illinoisan, I can appreciate the wildly corrupt nature of this story. New York Governor Mario Cuomo received a $25,000 donation from the law firm representing Harvey Weinstein just six days before he called off an investigation into the movie mogul's behavior.
The explanation from the law firm for the donation could have been lifted from a Chicago alderman's playbook.
“Neither Mr. Boies, nor anyone from his firm, ever discussed Harvey Weinstein or Mr. Vance with Mr. Cuomo, or anyone from his office, at any time,” the spokesperson told online political publication Capital and Main. “Mr. Boies is a longtime supporter of Mr. Cuomo and his contribution in June was consistent with his contributions to Mr. Cuomo over years past.”
"Mr. Boies" is David Boies, a principal in the law firm of Boies Schiller & Flexner. Why would Boies even have to mention Weinstein? Cuomo knew Boies was representing Weinstein. Boies knew Cuomo knew. It's the old wink and a nod campaign contribution where no words are necessary. Cuomo knew why Boies was giving him the $25K and the governor knew what it was for and what he had to do for it.
Presto! Six days later, the prosecutor is told to drop the investigation.
The hefty contribution from Manhattan firm Boies Schiller & Flexner came on June 20, according to records on the state Board of Elections website.
Less than a week later, Cuomo called for a six-month halt of state Attorney General Barbara Underwood’s investigation into Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance for deciding not to prosecute Weinstein for a 2015 groping incident.

RE: Cuomo could be vulnerable in his reelection bid if the libertarians and Republicans join to support the same candidate. But they won’t.

Unfortunately, Cuomo has a $30 million war chest and his GOP opponent, Marc Molinaro has barely a few million dollars for his campaign ( a 10 to 1 advantage ).
With so many Republicans in New York not motivated to vote, I am afraid we are going to see a third Andrew Cuomo term....
Also, he should take a big hit from liberals and feminists but I wonder how much media saturation this story will get
Imagine that we uncover an email chain:
“Hey! Andrew! If we give you a bribe, would you consider dropping the investigation into Weinstein?”
“I might be willing. But what you’re asking for is straight dereliction of duty. It’s going to cost you.”
“Understood. I can give you a $20,000 bribe if you walk away from Weinstein.”
“Not good enough. I want $25,000 in small bills or no deal. Your man is looking at serious charges. Pay up and I’ll make them all go away.”
Even if we found such an exchange, the media wouldn’t care.
Everybody move on, there’s nothing to see here.
Corruption plain as day, unreported in (most of) the media.
Is that The Hunger Game’s Jennifer Lawrence on his right?
Mario? Andrew?
RE: Not good enough. I want $25,000 in small bills or no deal. Your man is looking at serious charges. Pay up and Ill make them all go away.
You really believe he will do things for that cheap a price? The man must be desperate for money!
That’s less than half an hour of a Hillary speech.
RE: Mario? Andrew?
The author made a typo. Mario’s dead.
So did Cyrus Vance, Jr., from the same law firm.
