Remember Ted Kennedy in 1987 claiming that if the Senate confirmed Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, women would be forced into back-alley abortions [and] blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters? Not vitriolic.
How about the 1991 high-tech lynching by Senate Dems of Clarence Thomas? Again, not vitriolic.
Or the infamous NAACP dragging-death ad of 2000 in which George W. Bush was accused of killing the victim all over again? Nope, not vitriolic.
No, the political vitriol didnt begin until 2008. And it was Sarah Palins fault. That is, if you believe CNN, and, apparently, John McCain. This morning, CNNs senior White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny said:
By not having Sarah Palin at the service as well, and this was the wishes of his family, we are learning, he is also trying to perhaps put something back in the bottle that he helped, sort of, create in that 2008 campaign. Thats when this vitriol was sort of first beginning.

so...anyone who ever switches parties, is a “swing voter”?
The last democrat I ever voted for was Jimmy Carter, when he ran for Governor of Georgia.
According to the left, you, Hillary “won the popular vote” in 2016. Trump won by Electoral College votes.
That’s all I’s saying, I have other things to do than to play round-about with you all day.
The only reason I voted for mccain...SARAH PALIN.
Excellent point
Hillary did win the popular vote. But legally, Trump won the Presidency because he won the Electoral Votes. We don’t elect a President on popularity. We elect them through winning states. Enough swings moved to him in strategic states that awarded him a victory. That’s history. And nothing wrong with it.
McCain is lying.
As a Christian, its so sad. I want to lay aside the past, pray that he rests in peace, and move on. Yet he insists on being such a hateful old bastard, even post mortem. This is so unjust and gratuitously unkind. Palin has never been anything but loyal. Plus the stated reason, as the other commenters have noted, is both inaccurate and just stupid
How about Al Gore in 2004: "He betrayed this country! He preyed on our fears!"

Sarah upheld whatever obligation she felt she had to him, but I’ll bet she let him know in private what she really thought of him. Hence, the dis invite.
My head is a storage room full of political scandals, accusations and slights. I’ve following this stuff for too long lol.
Juan had no class, and his family has none either.
Palin is guilty of being the target of vitriol, including from her running mates loyalists.
I thought cnn was banned from this site
And can we quit with the damn Hill too? Everytime someone from there farts, it gets published here.
Exactly. The left and MSM fired the first million or so shots of this war. Way past time to hand them their a$$.
The non stop vile media attacks on Palin and her family was the beginning of open vitriol. Before that the media tried very hard to convince people they had no bias and were professionals reporting the facts to us.
The media outed themselves to try to destroy Palin. How is that Palin’s fault in any way? The media flames were fanned when McCain chose not to defend Palin, but instead to have his staff pour on a little gas.
It is laughable that CNN is blaming Palin for what they did. This is completely fake news, so much so it is laughable. CNN has not been in the news business for quite some time, but is now in the joke category as well.
While the McCain family is hugging up to the Democrats, they should remember that only when McCain was doing as the Democrats wanted him to do was he praised by them. If he did something they did not approve of he was also vilified by the Democrats. How short memories are when people are on a vendetta- which is what this is all about.
This is not about memorializing McCain, it is about getting back at conservatives, the truth is Trump and Palin are just representative of conservatives. This is an attack on all conservatives, in some twisted effort to make McCain out to be a big hero to...the Democrats.
BINGO
He revealed by his final actions just how dark and filled with hatred, anger, and vitriol he was. He died with a heart full of hate, and his final actions were acts of hate, cruelty, vengeance, and vitriol.
Thats his legacy: vitriol, hate, anger, pettiness, cruelty, vindictiveness, and revenge. How miserable and pathetic!
And rather than accept the responsibility for his own vitriol, he evidently tried to blame it on someone else!
Saddest of all is this: it could have been different. He could have left the world a legacy of love, kindness, forgiveness, light, hope, wisdom, and blessings.
We can all do better than this!
No doubt. But watch, the biggest applause line will be some vague jackslap at President Trump and, by extension, his supporters. He won’t have the balls to mention him by name but everybody will know who he is talking about.
