Remember Ted Kennedy in 1987 claiming that if the Senate confirmed Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, women would be forced into back-alley abortions [and] blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters? Not vitriolic.
How about the 1991 high-tech lynching by Senate Dems of Clarence Thomas? Again, not vitriolic.
Or the infamous NAACP dragging-death ad of 2000 in which George W. Bush was accused of killing the victim all over again? Nope, not vitriolic.
No, the political vitriol didnt begin until 2008. And it was Sarah Palins fault. That is, if you believe CNN, and, apparently, John McCain. This morning, CNNs senior White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny said:
By not having Sarah Palin at the service as well, and this was the wishes of his family, we are learning, he is also trying to perhaps put something back in the bottle that he helped, sort of, create in that 2008 campaign. Thats when this vitriol was sort of first beginning.

I hold child molesters in more esteem than I do McCain.
The way McCain allowed Sarah Palin to be continuously attacked and did nothing to defend her caused me to loose what little respect I had for him.
CNN says Palin not invited to McCain funeral because she began era of “vitriol.”
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
Is projection a form of mental illness?
Who sent teams of lawyers to harass and hound out of office Governor Palin?
Here’s that infamous TV ad in which W was accused of killing the dragging-death victim.
Nope: not vitriolic.

Funny how the praise of mcclaim is beyond amazing with the left media he was a Nazi fascist during his presidential run
Indeed. The libs and the media completely lost their minds! At that point, they no longer cared how knew it!
CNN:
We hate you because you’re guilty of making us hate you.
Thank you John McCain, the McCain family, and all you McCain handlers for reminding us why absolution was needed!
Consider it a blessing, Sarah.
It makes sense that the family wants to erase the Palin period from McCain's history. The family despises Palin and those who stand by her.
But the express disinviation draws attention to the ideological split, and may overtake the narrative that the McCain family prefers to advance at this moment.
PALIN began the era of vitriol?? This would be after democrats personally attacked her family, including her youngest son with Downs Syndrome, launched a series of frivolous ethics charges while she was AKs governor, accused her 14-year-old daughter of bedding Alex Rodriquez, and attempted mass murder in the arson burning of her church in Wasilla... right?
Wouldn’t it be neat if she could be appointed to fill McCains seat? Sold her Az. property but you never know.
The vitriol was all against her!
Actually, it’s easy to see why radical leftist news organizations like CNN can think that Palin “started the vitriol”. She was among the first of this political generation with the cojones to fight back against the deep seated bias of the Swamp. Historically, wimpy political pragmatists (like McCain) had to ignore the constant attacks from the radical leftist media, and smile, and pretend to be “bi-partisan”. Sarah didn’t. She exposed them for what they were. I’m quite sure she doesn’t even want to waste the time hobnobbing with them now. McCain is in no position to object.
Vitriol ? You mean like when the media said “you can put lipstick on a pig” ?
Is projection a form of mental illness?
No, but it is a symptom!
Projection.
