President Trump should award John McCain, who died on Saturday, the Medal of Honor. The posthumous award would recognize the senator’s extraordinary heroism during his five years of captivity in North Vietnam, when he was tortured mercilessly, leaving him disabled for life. The compassionate and respectful gesture might also help to heal some deep wounds in the Republican Party. McCain was a Navy fighter pilot when his plane was shot down on a mission over the North Vietnamese capital of Hanoi in 1967. He fractured both arms and one leg when he was ejected from his jet and nearly drowned when he parachuted into a lake. North Vietnamese pulled the badly injured McCain from the lake and attacked him. One bayonetted him and crushed his shoulder with a rifle butt.

So the answer here is no.
McCain does not in any way come close to having earned a Medal of Honor. If we want to give a pretty award in his memory, I would suggest something he qualifies for. Perhaps they have a spare Nobel Prize. Obama and Gore have those, and McCain is every bit as qualified.
Does Vietnam have a medal for fighter aces? He might qualify for one of those. How many American aircraft did he destroy?
Somebody ought to get the author the real story of Noname’s mistakes that got him injured and the real story about his captivity.
McCain had some credence with me for his service but he used it up very quickly when he voted against the service men left behind and against our veterans.
John McCain has already received more medals per hour of flight, than anyone else in the military, for his service to the nation during the Vietnam war many years ago.
How about a Grammy for the Hanoi Songbird instead?
If McLame is a hero because of his imprisonment as a POW, why isn’t this recommended for the rest of the POWs? BTW, how many of his fellow POWs attended the funeral or WERE they invited? McLame certainly DID NOT have an outstanding military career nor a legislative career as a Republican. I believe McLame was once censured by the Arizona Republican Party. Liberals have already bastardized our traditions and should not be allowed to politicize the MOH.
