DALLAS
A Dallas County jury has found ex-Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver guilty of murder in the death of 15-year-old Jordan Edwards, an African-American youth who was unarmed when Oliver shot him in April 2017.
The jury deliberated for about 12 hours over a period of two days before reaching its verdict. The courtroom erupted in cries and cheers from Edwards family afterward as they clapped and hugged each other.
Odell Edwards, Jordan Edwards father, said his family is relieved and happy. Its been a long time, hard year and were just really happy, he said, holding back tears. We did it.
God is good, God is good, one woman said in the hallway outside the courtroom, as she hugged others.

Oliver shot into the back of a 2004 black Impala where Edwards was a passenger on April 29 last year. The then-officer claimed the car was about to run over his partner, Officer Tyler Gross, but several witnesses and video taken from the officers body camera show the car was moving away from Gross.

Love the thin blue line. Don't love this.
God is good, God is good...”
Yes he is!
Police cr@ppy training basically says, if there is any question, shoot, so you go home safely. A gun? Shoot. A knife? If within 21 feet - shoot. A nail clipper? Could be used to take your eye out - shoot. A club or pipe? Might break your bone - shoot. A cell phone? Who knows what he has in his hands? - shoot.
Then, all the cop has to say is: “I was in fear for my lie/my partner’s life/public safety” and no matter how outrageous the situation, the cop would get a free pass.
And, of course - The report: “The suspect pointed a gun at me”, “The suspect made a furtive gesture,” “the suspect didn’t follow my police instructions” - all based only on the claims of the officer - and those after a 48 hour “cooling down period”.
Videos are breaking down a lot of those stories, and “in fear for my life” is subject to review of the facts of the case.
Even with that, it is a very rare thing that an officer is charged, let alone convicted under these circumstances, and most of those are reversed at some point in the appeals process.
“Love the thin blue line.”
Not me. I love the Constitution and I expect law enforcement to do the same or find another job.
If I hate BLM, Trayvon, Gentle Giant BUT ALSO hate cops who view all non-cops as the enemy:
What do I do..?
You forgot the all-purpose excuse of, “He lunged at me!”
They love that word because they invoke it like it’s a license to beat, assault, tase, shoot, and kill.
Lots of video on You Tube also puts the lie to too many claims of ‘lunging’.

Say hi to your new friend Megan!
This was the same kind of crappy police work that killed that woman in Minneapolis.
You forgot the all-purpose excuse of, He lunged at me!

You don’t think Michael Brown deserved to be shot, do you?
Murder usually requires premeditation and intent. I guess that is irrelevant when Special People are involved.
Yeah, the difference is in Texas, the cop’s partner testified against him. In Minneapolis, the partner apparently somehow didn’t see a thing.
^_^

So he shot and killed her.
Agree!
Michael Brown had a lifetime of problems and at this point I’m satisfied that he was the cause of what happened to him.
I do not believe that everything the police do is wrong. But I do know from personal experience that some of them are sadists and some departments are institutionally corrupt.
This video suggests to me that the shooting *might* have been justified.Without much more evidence I can’t form any firm opinion regarding this incident.
The vast majority of cops are good cops. Some cops make bad decisions under stress. Those should not be cops.
