John McCain Epitomized A Dedication To His Country All Americans Should Share [BARF]
The Federalist ^ | 8/28/18 | Inez Feltscher Stepman

Posted on 08/28/2018 3:46:39 AM PDT by markomalley

Since the news broke of Sen. John McCain’s passing on Saturday night, tributes to the man, and his full life of public service, have been rolling in from all corners of the political spectrum. In testament to the respect he commanded even from his political opponents, two former rivals in presidential contests—Barack Obama and George W. Bush—will be among those to eulogize the senator at a service in his honor.

While those who knew him better and shared the heavy burdens of leadership with him will speak for the country, I feel compelled to add this small token of gratitude for how his example of statesmanship and courage impressed just one family.

My parents immigrated to the United States in the late 1980s and settled in Silicon Valley, California, where I was born. I grew up in Palo Alto, among the people who would, in the next two decades, become recognized around the country as the cream of the tech world, although they already saw themselves as such back then.

They were clever, rich, and privileged; a new American elite who had been granted every advantage. Yet they saw patriotic attachment to the country that had given them everything as unsophisticated at best and jingoistic at worst.

During McCain’s first presidential run in 2000, I was too young to be substantively involved in politics. Yet all in my family noticed what a contrast this man—son and grandson to admirals, born into prestige—provided to the detached, global-citizen class of Palo Alto. McCain’s first and most important allegiance was always as an American. “No association has ever meant more to me than that,” he said, when conceding the election of 2008.

McCain represented an older American elite, a better one, that still considered privilege synonymous with the duty of service. Few families have taken that duty more seriously than the McCains, with their cross-generational ethos of service to country, inside and outside the military.

Others have and will continue to write about McCain’s heroism in Vietnam, his accomplishments as senator, and the many achievements of his rich life. But to our little family of brand-new Americans, he was a shining example of a servant leadership class, who did not take the blessings this magnificent country had bestowed on them for granted. He showed us the highest standard of what it meant to be an American.

Over the years, most people can point to political and policy disagreements with the original maverick. He was, like his hero Theodore Roosevelt, the “man in the arena,” and just about all of his colleagues and rivals had to climb into that arena to meet him at some point or another.

But only the vicious and dishonest could ever doubt that McCain made his many important decisions with the best interests of his country, as he saw them, at heart. If every public servant shared his patriotic intentions, the country would be a far better place, and it is poorer for having lost one of its finest.

Never has a political slogan so perfectly captured the ethos of the man running: Country First. From the age of 17 to his passing at almost 82, McCain put his country first, and for those decades of faithful service, we, his fellow countrymen, should show our deepest gratitude.

McCain said of himself when he came back from captivity and torture in the Hanoi Hilton, “I wasn’t my own man anymore, I was my country’s.” Your country thanks and honors you, Senator McCain, and it will miss you.

Ms. Stepman is sadly mistaken...McLame was no hero, he was a collaborator.

Doubt it? Listen to McLame's words for yourself.

A total disgrace to his uniform. The man had even more arrogance than Obama. I hope he meets the sailors he killed and he answers for his actions. Damn him!

Man squeezed more out of military hero status than anyone in our nation’s history. Many paid a much higher price and got less in return.

As much as I disagree with McCain’s anti-American policies and despicable behavior, I can’t really hold something like this against anyone in a Communist prison camp. However, it should be known by everyone if only to emphasize the true courage of men like Jeremiah Andrew Denton who blinked “torture” in Morse code while being filmed for his propaganda commercial.

He said he would repeal Obamacare. He said he would vote to repeal it before the vote. But then he changed his mind and went against his word.

And I suffer with Obamacare to this day because of it. High Deductibles High Premiums you know - UGH!

Jesus didn’t get a funeral but this guy gets to lie in state in three locations, has a cross-country procession, is eulogized by ex-presidents and other dignitaries and is buried in honor at his alma mater. Someone explain this to me. I pity the poor security guard in the future who’ll have to guard his grave against those wishing to pay their last respects.

As I’ve posted on other threads, my pappy told me to never speak ill of the dead. So, if I can’t say anything good about somebody, who’s dead, I won’t say anything at all!......for now!

McCain died as a thin skinned Republican elitist, doing bitter things to President Donald Trump who is a great man elected for and by the People. McCain was Obama’s dimmi , doing Obama’s bidding to support the jihad and ISIS.Obama used McCain like a common street whore who was left giggling because she had a few extra campaign bucks in her purse. McCain clad himself in the our flag to actually betray our country. And IMHO McCain knew exactly what Obama was using him for.

McCain was a decent enough politician until he lost the 2002 GOP presidential nomination to GW Bush. After that he was incredibly bitter. That is when he should have retired in 2002 because subsequently he was an agent provocateur to the GOP and actually sometimes engaged in treasonous activity internationally. He was strangely quiet on the Benghazi fiasco, when he could have led the charge.

One lurid example of McCain’s treasonous conduct was the bogus arms deal he brokered in Syria with the Magic Negro’s help, about 500 million dollars of small arms to a Syrian group of rebels of about 12 men who McCain had met for a photo op.The arms were sold on the black market in Syria as fast as they arrived, to ISIS and the Jihad, later to be used against our US soldiers and allies. The arms dealers in McCains pocket tickled his scrotum with $$$ on that one, and McCain once again became Obama’s dimmi. Most Americans do not even know about this fiasco or the methods Obama used to support the jihad instead of fighting it.Obama used McCain to actually support ISIS.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/jon-soltz/five-hundred-million-down_b_7764280.html

McCain did little or nothing to help the cause against liberal fascism ,promoted and implemented by Obama.McCain could have been heroic in 2008 campaign but he fizzled, his powder wet instead of dry. Therefore the left now cynically lauds Senator McCain’s life, the way that Muslims laud their dimmis.

This article by Laz shows a genuinely true picture of McCain:

It would be one thing had he cracked under torture, particularly if he owned that fact during his debriefing and then acknowledged it in public (since he was in public life). But that's not the case, is it?

He rode his "hero" status like a conquering Caesar. That is the biggest thing that galls me. Even those commentators with whom I agree say, "we may not have liked all of what he did in the Senate, but, by God, he was a WAR HERO." ((puke))

It really is Wellstone 2.0. As usual, the Libs overplay their hand. So much, too much, adulation for this Senator is like having too many pieces of cake; one gets nauseous after about the 3rd slice. Going overboard with endless praise is going to turn people off with the excess.

When the pack of low-life, slimly RATs suck up to a POS like this, it speaks VOLUMES of what he really was.
The real héros were the ones that died trying to put out the fire to save the USS Forestal that the stupid SOB set by touching off his afterburners on the flight deck.

With this drawn-out mourning period, there might be a silver lining. That is that the false narrative might crumble before Senator McCain is finally laid to rest.

“McCain made his many important decisions with the best interests of his country, as he saw them, at heart.”

So have a lot of people. Simply believing you are right doesn’t make you a good person.

When McCain was alive I judged him by his actions, not his beliefs, and considered him an arrogant elitist jackass convinced his own infallible reasoning.

Now that he has passed... I plan on not considering him any further.

“..., my pappy told me to never speak ill of the dead.”

Au contraire, mon frere, the person we knew as John McCain is very much alive!

Where he is of course only God knows, but let’s just say that if JM didn’t come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by time he took his last breath, where he now resides is considerably warmer than Arizona ever was.

I say this in all due respect to your pappy.
