The American Legion is demanding that President Donald Trump issue a proclamation honoring Sen. John McCain’s heroism, and order the nation’s flags to be flown at half-staff.
The nation’s largest veterans’ service organization urged Trump in a statement Monday to follow longtime protocol following the deaths of prominent government officials.
The group noted that Trump issued presidential proclamations commemorating the deaths of first lady Barbara Bush and pastor Billy Graham. McCain, who died Saturday at 81, is a decorated Vietnam War hero who spent more than five years as a prisoner-of-war and served in the Senate for six terms.

I'm sure they asked for it because he was a prominent military veteran, not because he was a "media darling."
Ted Kennedy got the same honors ... and that bloated slob is even buried at Arlington National Cemetery. THAT is more of an outrage than anything related to McCain, in my humble opinion.
well, it may upset you but it doesn’t upset me.
i am confident he is MAGA and will continue to do so. there is even an argument that can be made (and I bet DT makes it) that he respects the AL so much and thinks they are such great people that he decided to honor the wishes of the fantastic AL leadership and re-instate the half-mast. The AL are part of his MAGA coalition and he respects them deeply.

Shame on the American Legion spokesperson (whoever that was) who demanded the President violate flag protocol for the traitor McCain.
Now, however, the President should go ahead and declassify and release to the public all the evidence against McCain concerning the Steele dossier, and about his involvement in shipping the Bengazi weapons to Syria to create and arm ISIS, and probably dozens of other treasonous fiascos.

I am Lifetime Member of VFW and a member of the Legion and it doesn’t matter what Members say, until the next election.
VFW actual “Official” stance on Obamacare was a sickening approval.
I have not been to a meeting since.
American Legion on the other-hand are more Community than Political.

Dear AM Legion, all that stuff has been done by PDJT already, both flag lowering per the law and proclamation (nicer than necessary, too).

You might be right, it sure looks that way. Lets hope he got good advice and it was a calculated move based on pure reason and math.
Along with others here, very disappointed in the American Legion. It appears McCain was a marginal pilot and for an R a marginal politician at best. At the worst, McCain was essentially a Navy brat who some say sold out fellow captives
(There are those who will wonder if the flags in Hanoi are at half-mast.)
Just lower the flag, issue a proclamation, and be done with it. We have bigger fish to fry here.
